2016 Ram 1500 Eco Diesel Spontaneously Combusted

My 2016 Ram EcoDiesel had been sitting untouched for 36 hours and then randomly burst into flame's.

Don't park Eco diesel indoors, I'm lucky my whole house didn't burn down...

I think this is a first..even on other Ram forums.
Any reason why you think it has something to do with being an EcoDiesel specifically? and not some other reason including possibly foul play?
I think just about every manufacturer has had vehicles mysteriously catch on fire, some of which have had safety recalls.
Luckily no one was injured or any major property damage like a house/garage happened.

Wow, that sucks. Sorry to hear about your truck. I am betting it had to be something electrical. I would wait and see what happens after an investigation and find the root cause of this. It is possible if you had some electrical accessories that they could have caused it.

While I know it is fun to beat up on Ram, I would not rush to judgement yet. Wait until all the facts are known. I used to work for a large Japanese manufacturer and had to deal with quite a few strange things that were blamed on our cars that weren't the fault of the cars.

I know it sucks that this happened and thankfully nothing else was damaged such as your house. Contact FCA right away and get them involved. If it is a systemic issue then it could impact other people's trucks and the call you make could save someone's life. So call the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 and report this immediately.

Please pardon my ignorance but what is FCA?

The fire marshal listed as unknown cause, there's not much left for the truck. I would tend to think it's more of a ram problem then a Eco diesel but who knows. Pretty much everyone's on vacation right now so I'll have to wait till next week to get any answers

Sorry to hear this. Thankfully no one was hurt.

    FCA is Fiat Chrysler America.

WOW, sorry to hear about the truck. Like everyone else has said, thankful no one was hurt. On a side note, are you the one that makes the aluminum dividers for the RamBox.

Very odd. How long have you had her what kind of miles have you put on her. Amazing you got it on vid & it's in a safe spot in I assume your driveway. Have you had trouble with this truck? What made you decide to find our forum & post up? You think they will find an ED defect & this could help another ED owner?

Best wishes hope you get what you should for this. So far Ram has been real good about replacing motors that have failed & such. (Seems the hand assembly of these has led to some being assembled improperly & failing. Or so some theorise.)

I have reported it to Chrysler and have a claim # with them as well as the National Highway and Transportation Authority or whatever the acronym is.
