    Projector Upgrade

So I have the quads in my Big Horn. My neighbor just put a set of these in his Ram 3500 and they look good. I'm just not sure if they would handle an HID or LED bulb upgrade. Has anyone here done it?

Don't mean to come across as harsh but....your quad lights are going to be better (light output) than those ever will be with HID's in them. Don't even get me started on those "LED bulbs"

Those use the worst, cheapest, H1 halogen projectors straight out of beijing. They are toys, not headlights. To answer your question, yes people have put HID's in them, and they were so bad most people take them out again--the whole headlight, not just the HID kit.

If you want to upgrade your lighting, You can safely put a H9 in the lowbeam and a 9011 in the highbeam. You'll have to do a little bit of trimming on the headlight tabs but they are otherwise optically compatible Best part is this will probably only cost you about $50 at the parts store.

I post a lot in the lighting forum over on the Z site but not as much over here. One day I'm going to post a big lighting FAQ for this site, well, if there is interest.

If you want HID lights, retrofit in a proper HID projector. It isn't overly difficult with morimoto parts, and you won't touch them with anything else as far as output is concerned. Your other option is to buy a set of 2013+ projectors from the sport/laramie/limiteds. You'll need a wiring adapter (retroshop) but that alone is a decent upgrade with just halogens. They'll handle an HID not badly either. Not nearly as good as a real HID projector however.

A customer of mine's son put them on his Ram 3500, i asked him about them when i saw them, he said they look real cool, but their light output is terrible.

Don't waste your money on those, spend the extra money and get these:

Right and Left Projector Headlights For 13-15 Dodge RAM 1500/2500/3500 (Black) | eBay

    And the retrofit adapters:

^ Not a bad price for them. I don't think those are OEM but that doesn't really matter as long as they're either OEM or TYC. Those are likely TYC's. You can order the TYC replacement parts from rockauto.com as well.

First of all, for the record, I know absolutely nothing about headlamp terminology and reading threads on it make my head swim. What I do know is that every Ram I've ever owned (6 of them in 23 years) all had terrible lights. As I got older, I started to have to wear glasses when driving at night and even with them, I'm amazed at how little or far ahead I can see. Throw in a really dark night in the rain and I'm lucky to be able to navigate by the white line next to me.

That being the case, I have a 2016 Ram 2500HD CC, 6.4L Hemi Tradesman. Everything on the truck is bare minimum. Add to the fact that I can't afford really good lamp assemblies but was hoping that someone with some specific knowledge could recommend a simple bulb replacement for a maximum of $100 that wouldn't require any modifications ?

    Much appreciated

Please do post a lighting FAQ, I would imagine people are venturing to other forums for this information.... Post it and they will come, with questions of course.

While we're on the subject of projector upgrades, what are your thoughts about the fog light projector retrofit? Most likely the ones from The Retroshop.

Try upgrading your halogen bulbs to Sylvania SilverStar Ultras (or ZXEs). I have the ZXEs, they make a difference in my opinion. If you have the horizontal fog lights, change out the bulbs in those too, do a 9145 bulb to 9005 conversion.
If you look for them on sale, you can find both the lows and fogs for about $100

Nah, the "bright" bulbs suck. The don't last at all. If you hit a bump, the filiment breaks.
