AEM tanked MPG so ordered a DGE tune

For no good reason, I watch my mpg pretty carefully. I have a 2014 with 88k miles. Got the AEM 2wks ago and my mpg went down a little >20%. I kept remembering the lawyer-speak that I got saying there'd be no change in performance. I also noticed that the tranny shift programming seems to have changed a bit. The tranny tries to stay in a lower gear, can't, and therefore downshifts more often. I'm thinking that the AEM mod clearly is an mpg killer and tranny shift logic was changed in order to help mitigate the mpg reduction.

I was already thinking pretty seriously of getting the Diesel Green Engineering hot tune. But it's a slam dunk now that AEM has hosed my mpg. So I ordered a GDR ECU today. Thanks to AEM, GDR is going to do a lot of business.

The AEM update didn't tank my mpg they weren't that great before but my performance was really hurt by it. I was getting 21 city and 24 highway before. After GDE tune I get 23 to 24 city and 27 to 30 highway depending on speed. My wife took my truck yesterday and she came back with it and first thing she said was wow the truck is much more peppy and zippy now with the tune. I really was impressed by it.

I don't know if you already know , the fuel economy with the tune is suppose to pay for the tune within 40K miles ,
that number was posted by GDE a couple years ago , before price of fuel went up , might take less with new prices .

Exactly my scenario and the truck stays in 7th gear a lot longer now and mpg dropped significantly despite FCA stating it wouldn't. Not sure what we can do though other than what you did but I want my old transmission programming back. GDE won't help that unless you get their tune.

You will soon be vilified like me with all this praise of GDE. Makes no sense to NOT have it yet some make no sense and denounce GDE.

Keep on enjoying, writing about the benefits and take some of the heat off me. Thanks.

It tanked mine as well a few mpgs and almost got into a few wrecks with the damn lag and then turbos kicking in.

Did the AEM a few weeks ago, DPF light came on and the dealership said it would take a week to get the part. So, have to take it back a 3rd time to the dealership. Why does it take a week to get a part in 2019?

I know that this doesn't help your situation....I deal in the Sport Bike world and most OEM parts takes at LEAST a week to show up, most of the time 2 weeks.
