    My Engine went bad

    Truck rolled over 177k miles last week. Today it decided to reward me by dropping oil pressure at a light. As we pulled off the main road onto a side street the engine started clattering really bad right as I shut it down. It's at the dealer, but I won't find out about it until Monday.

    I did check the oil while waiting for the tow truck. Oil dipstick showed full. Last oil change was February.

    Put a delete on it 30k miles ago (not related). Truck was running great up until it wasn't. No warning.

    Rotella t6 and wix filters since I bought it in 2016 with 117k miles.

    Clattering is not necessarily a blown engine. Fingers crossed you could have a pump or injection issue.

    You'd be really surprised how bad a delayed ignition can sound on a diesel.

    Clattering and low oil pressure light while engine is running,and not stalling out usually means low oil pressure...Especially with These calculated oil pressure gauges ,they’ll keep reading adequate Oil pressure perfectly as long as the engine is running or until the engine has an issue and it’s shutting it self down then the oil pressure drops to 4or 5 psi , then you’ll get a low oil pressure light...

    Dealers are normally top dollar repairs. I would look for an independent repair shop to diagnose and maybe repair/replace the engine. You are long, long overf warranty. Doubt any dealer would adjust their labor costs or parts pricing to be more reasonable. They normally have huge overhead to pay for.
    If you wrestle with a pig you'll both get dirty and the pig loves it. .

    Yeah. I thought of that but this dealer has a good record with local diesel guys.

    Agreed but half the post here about low oil pressure lights are bogus since it merely indicates the engine stalled

    In this case, the engine was still idling just fine... just showed 0 oil pressure and then started developing the loud clatter.
