    Leaking Fluid

So I’m looking for some help.....
My truck is a 15’ fully deleted and has 105k miles and I tow 70% of those. Delete was done at 60k miles. So I noticed my coolant has been kinda low last oil change and did not see any leaks so I topped it off maybe 2 times in the last 2 weeks. So today I was pulling my car hauler and noticed my temps were kinda hot (226 oil/ 212 coolant) so I pull over and give it a look notice my coolant is 1/4 inch below line and there is this fluid all over the bottom of trans and oil pan. It looks like coolant but I’m not sure and can’t see where it’s coming from. Any help would appreciated thanks!!!!!!

Appears to be originating from the top of the trans. I would suspect the transmission heat exchanger.

I looked under the truck again and to see if I could get my phone to record it. This is right where the trashy meets the engine . I also found this looked like oil leaking from this bolt or above it and it dropped down........

I’m afraid to take it to the dealer due to no confidence in them fixing stuff from past experience so would you recommend a coolant stop liquid or just bite the bullet and take it in? Not sure where that oil came from either. I did spill a little last oil change a month ago so not sure if it’s from that or something more serious......

DO NOT use a coolant stop leak. It will damage your system more than it will help it.

If you have your stock transmission fluid, you can rule that out as it's not red. Looks like coolant to me, from the heat exchanger at the transmission. Just take it to a reputable diesel shop.

You sure do have a serious leak. As stated, looks from above the transmission. The air will blow that fluid around and up, making it hard to actually find the leak. Clean things off best you can and do smaller, incremental runs or just idles and hope to get a better look at the origin with out the wind blowing that coolant all around.

Now you do not have skid plates so it is possible those open holes are just mounting places for those plates. Man all that open stuff kind of scares me as I would have drug stuff off without those plates. Good luck with finding the origin of the leak.

I was losing coolant and finally seeing pink residue around the water pump area, dealer confirmed pump was leaking, and they replaced the pump and all coolant seals back to the turbo. Yours could be running down back of motor if any of those seals are leaking.

    @Shaggy,

I just went through this and did a bunch of research. I was losing about a gallon of coolant every 25 miles. I was seeing pretty much the same coolant runoff that you posted in the pictures and like you was unable to determin the exact source of the leak. I did some research and found that there is a stainless steel y-pipe that feeds coolant into the Turbo that has a rubber hose in it, I'm assuming for flexibility. In a post another user on this forum had shared that the rubber hose part of the y-pipe burst on his truck was the cause of the leak for him. Coolant leak on his trucked looked very similar to what you and I were seeing.

I was hoping this was the same for me. You can't access the coolant line without removing the upper intake manifold. I could not see where the leak was coming from for sure so I opted to take it into the dealer this morning. After about 5 hours of digging into this (the tech was able to drive the truck back and start on it as soon as I dropped it off luckily) the dealer called me this afternoon and told me my Turbo was the source of the leak and needed to be replaced. I'm out of warranty, and the bill is $4,570.17. Not really something I was looking forward to. If it was just the coolant inlet hose, it would have been expensive as well because they have to remove the intake manifold and the turbo to get to it from what I read. The new turbo is $1265 of the cost. Labor is $2,510. I decided to go ahead and let them do it. Dealer offers 2 year unlimited warranty for anything touched during the repair. I could have purchased a used turbo for about $600 that had a 6 month parts only warranty, but since most of the cost was in labor, It was worth it for me to just have them install a new turbo.

I hope you are luckier than I am.

I think it's like Gputah said ,and Steve 49 said also ,coolant hard line bringing coolant from water pump to turbo
runs under the intake , most of the leak evaporates from heat , but you seem to a have a bigger leak and it goes down
the back of the engine , we can see in your pictures the trace from up top then it collects and dries to a pink waxy residu .
images of coolant line , just a oring in between the 2 tubes coming together .
Lots of pictures provided by Barboots near the end of this thread :https://www.ram1500diesel.com/forum/...ump-today.html
my money is on that leak.
