So after putting in a search on this forum for P0087, found this is not an uncommon occurrence. From my reading, popular opinion seems to be that this may be due to running the fuel below 1/4 tank affecting the fuel/lift pump in the tank. Some tried changing the fuel filter to no avail. I still have not read yet where a real solution was found, but I'm still looking.
I will admit I am one of those that runs my tank down to the Low Fuel warning often. Looking through my mileage logs, my average fill up is between 23 and 24 gallons with an occasional one at 25gal. The tank had just been filled two days before (24.8gal) and only had 70 miles driven on it when I experienced the shut down. I guess just because I can get 600+ miles on a tank, maybe I shouldn't. I think I'll start filling up at the 550 mile point going forward.
Thanks for that link. I hadn't done a search on the P016F code yet. At the very least I am learning that if a dealer says "contaminated fuel", DO NOT believe them.

As reported earlier, drove just over 350miles this past week with the OEM module in it without experiencing the shut down again.

Glad that the original CEL and problem was not what you feared.
Do an update if there is a change. Now enjoy the ride.
If you wrestle with a pig you'll both get dirty and the pig loves it. .
Final update for this, I hope. No new CEL or warnings over the weekend. Everything seems to be running as normal. I have been occasionally letting the fuel pump prime before hitting the start button, and I'm not hearing any unusual noises.
No issues during trip to San Diego on Saturday. Had to fill up while down there and only got 23.3MPG (hand calc) on this last tank. 350 of 550 miles driven with OEM module vs GDE module.
Rolled 100,000 on the way home Saturday night. I had never reset trip B and tried to record it turning over but was .3 miles too late as it reset to zero at 99,999.6.
Love this truck! Happy Driving!
