#1. I have a 2015 Bighorn and I was wondering how I find out if the auto dimming high beam feature is installed on my truck and able to be activated by alfa OBD?

#2. If I use alfa OBD to enable various LED lights do I need to purchase the resistors?
Specifically I have already purchased Diode Dynamics SS3 LED Pro driving lights and I am looking at the Morimoto LED XB replacement assemblies.

Many thanks to this community for the wealth of knowledge!

If you have the Auto High beams there sensor hangs off the mount on the rearview mirror and you would have the option in the 8.4 radio.

As for needing resistors with LED lights, well you have a '15 which tends to be more particular about what type of lighting. Most of the issues usually revolve around the front running lights and turn signals especially if the aftermarket lights have any form of switchback lighting.

Why the SSE3 driving lights? The fog light version are awesome as they put the light low and from side to side, let the headlights take care of the distance.

Thanks all for insightful posts and responses:
As I suspected my vehicle does not appear to be equipped with the necessary hardware to activate the Auto dimming lighting. It is a feature I really enjoy in the Toyota van I drive for my vanpool. It would appear that it is not as good in the RAM based on the comments though so probably no great loss.

I have the OBDMX link and am awaiting delivery of a Lenovo Tab MD 8 HD Android tablet I ordered to use the AlfaOBD app that is popular on this and other forums. I live in an iOS environment mostly so this tablet will be exclusively for my truck. It sounds like it will be a great tool to have no matter if I need to change the light settings or not.

My original plan was to just do driving lights and nothing to the headlights BUT my wife said... "Why don't you let me buy the headlights you want for you for Christmas."
I have now changed the SS3 pro driving lights to the SS3 pro fogs.
BTW, Shout out to Diode Dynamics for a seamless return and exchange process. Top notch!

I am still on the fence about the Morimoto XB or XB hybrids. Quite a price difference but the Morimoto website clearly says this about the hybrids:
N
OTE: THESE ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH 2015 TRUCKS AT THIS TIME. PLEASE CHECK BACK SOON

I have gotten conflicting information from different sources and am not sure if the ability of the alfaOBD to activate LED's in the settings will make the hybrids compatible.

You should be happy with those fogs. I did the LED bulbs in the factory housings and the Morimoto XB vertical fogs, the SSE3 fogs blows both of those options away.
As for the headlight compatibility, it's sorta a crap shoot with the '15 model year(other model years also). I the Alpharex V1 Pro headlights in my '15, also added the DRL circuits to mine. I use Sylvania ZXE(halogen) in the lows and Hikari Ultras LEDs in the Highs. I did the LED setting but the V1s don't have switchback or sequential turns. I did use error modules on the highs. Everything works without any errors of hyper flashing. You might want to check out the Alpharex Luxx series, lots of people happy with them and they are well built.
Whichever headlights you go with, you might want to buy a set of the 3057 resistors just in case.

Easy way is to go to the Ram web site and enter the VIN. You can get the window sticker.

#1: My 2015 Ram Laramie came from the factory with auto dimming headlights. I prefer controlling my own high beams and the auto dim function was so sensitive and twitchy that I turned them off. If your truck has them installed, you should be able to activate them from the setup function on the radio/systems panel.

Many headlight assemblies like Alpha Rexx and Morimoto say for "halogen replacement" or "
projector replacement only" unless you use an optional resistor kit or adaptor harness etc, etc,.
Some say not for use or compatible with LED tail lights

If you can change the settings in alfa OBD to LED does any of that really matter?

The harnesses are different so yes it still matters.

Well step 1 complete today. I finally had time to install the SS3 Pro foglights I ordered and will be adjusting them tonight.
In a side note I set up the alfa OBD app on my new "designated" lenovo tablet and did the fog light drop out to allow the fog lights to stay on with the high beams. It seemed like a pretty simple feature to activate as I have not used the alfa software before today. Will do a night drive this evening and make sure the SS3's are adjusted properly. I will take a couple pics but I think they are pretty well documented here already. 👍

BTW I did not install the D/D anti-flicker modules yet. I will drive it around a little and see if I need them or not. So far they seem to work just fine w/o changing the fogs to LED's in alfaOBD yet either.

Thank you for all of the informative posting on this forum.

Next weekend I will be installing the Morimoto XB headlights with the resistors for a 2015!

So update on my lighting project. I installed the Morimoto XB LED headlights in my 2015 RAM today. Install was super easy. Before installing the resistors that are "required" for my vehicle I turned everything on to see if it all worked and much to my suprise..... I did not need the resistors. DRL worked fine in all modes, high/low beam, no hyper flashing of turn signals. Absolutely nothing out of order. I did not even change the CBC settings for LED lighting.

Not sure why that is.

I would have thought I would have got some sort of bulb out code? I am not complaining but I was expecting it to be a bit more finicky.

BTW the Morimoto XB headlights are great and very easy to adjust. I did not hook up the sequential blinker feature though.
I drove about 20 miles or so after adjusting per instructions and no one flashed me so it must be good. Between the SS3's and the Morimoto things are looking very bright!

Pics coming...

So my lighting project is complete for now. The sum total of the project was Diode Dynamics SS3 Pro white fog lights, Morimoto XB LED headlights , and why not, the Morimoto tail lights to boot.
After driving around for a week with everything installed I got one "low beam headlight" code on the dash and the headlights went out. The fog lights stayed on though. The code reset itself and the lights came back on almost immediately.
After I got home I got out the alfaOBD kit I bought and went in and changed the high and low beam settings to LED present.
My wife and I travelled about 300 miles taking a long weekend for our 34th anniversary and I used the lights quite a bit.
No blinking, flickering, malfunctions or error codes and I made a point of using the lights in various combinations.
I will say although it was a fairly expensive project it really lights up the road and cures the halogen "blues" my truck had. It also updates the look of the truck quite nicely. This project was a win all the way around.
