Hi everyone new ecodiesel owner here(2015) Been doing my research and learning about the features and maintenance but one recent thing I noticed has caught my attention and I can’t seem to find any information about diagnosing air suspension. Maybe I didn’t notice it at first but I really didn’t hear the compressor running all that much but now it runs quite often. When set to entry mode and engine running the pump cycles on and off for a few seconds and back on and keeps cycling all while the rear moves up and down slightly. When set to other height modes the truck stays at the level but the pump shuts off for about 30 seconds and kicks on again and keeps cycling. One would assume there’s a leak... when engine is off the pump is off and no leak can be heard or found and the truck maintains its level(tested overnight) it’s also very slow to raise Sometimes or just stubborn in general and I have to set it to a lower mode and then back up and I will usually be stuck with a raising indicator for several minutes even though nothing is happening. I have let the truck run and pump up and then once the pump shuts off I immediately shut the truck off and check for leaks and I have noticed in the area around the pump occasionally I catch a significant hissing that sounds like there’s a good amount of moisture bubbling in the airflow. This system is all new to me and with work all day and work all night I unfortunately don’t have the time to jack it up and soap up everything and check the entire system as much as I would love to fully understand the functions and layout of the entire system. Any ideas on possible leaks or is it common for frequent pump running?

Welcome to the forum. Just so we know, where are you located and is there any warranty left on the truck?

Sounds like a sensor calibration issue to me, more so than a leak. I have the system but wouldn't know how to go about diagnosing it.

I’m in NH but it’s not nearly cold enough for the typical “cold issues” I keep seeing with the air suspension. All warranties are over I’m on my own now.

I also decided to spend some time to check it out after work today and everything worked perfectly suddenly it only cycled when I set it to go up each setting. But then I went to run an errand and with truck in park the compressor was cycling every 15 seconds again.

I have a 16 Longhorn. I had similar symptoms with mine a few months ago.
I removed the cover where the compressor is and immediately noticed that the mounts / bushings holding the compressor in place were totally worn out allowing the compressor to wiggle around and it had cracked a line right above the compressor. You couldn’t see it until you dropped the compressor and there it was.
I was relieved to know it was only that and not the compressor itself.
The truck had around 130,000 on it when it happened, I am now at over 165,000 and no more problems. Every time I change my oil I do remove the cover and make sure the compressor is still secure.
I attribute the problems with my air suspension to driving conditions, I drive on some mine roads that are brutally rough.
I don’t know if this helps or not but it thought I would share with you what happened to me.

Driving in New England is just as bad as mining roads but paved and just as bumpy lol. There did seem to be a lot of play with the pump and I thought maybe it was normal so I will have to give it a go and check on that tonight. I’m hoping I can figure it out soon before the pump burns out from running so frequently. Did you replace the line with typical plastic air line you can get anywhere? Given the climate here and how plastic doesn’t last very long I wouldn’t be surprised if I have the same issue.

So today I made some headway with the air suspension issue. I pulled the taillight and poured a small amount of air compressor oil in the intake line and let the pump do it’s constant cycle issue and eventually it’s got quieter and no more hissing out of the exhaust line. And I’ve raised and lowered the truck several times and it’s holding pressure to the point the pump hasn’t even had to kick on yet. But now suddenly I’m not able to get into off road 2 setting.

you know that system is not suppose to take in outside air ....( moisture contained in the air )
it only does it when it fails , and all the gases it uses are down .
I don't have air suspension , but I read a few good threads .

Thanks for that bit of Info! That’s the most details I’ve found yet on it. Unfortunately I’m far past warranty and can’t be taking it to the dealer to fix but yet so few have actually diagnosed and fixed it themselves that nobody seems to know how to work on the system. The idea of adding the oil was to help lubricate and possibly wet any dry seals and it seems to have worked for the most part. The rest of that day it didn’t draw any outside air but this morning it ran a cycle drawing outside air and I haven’t heard it kick on since. I’m thinking that the leak is somewhere within the solenoid block which is only causing it to lose pressure while moving air around. The truck holds it levels fine and doesn’t sink. I feel like I might be stuck having to take it to a dealer before winter comes so it can be fully evacuated and recharged with nitrogen.

There's got to be shops out there with Nitrogen tanks , maybe places that fix air conditioning ??

the humidity in air will deposit water inside the system , no big deal if you don't have winters , but even with summer operations it can become a problem ,
I worked with locomotives , the main reservoirs for air on locomotives look like long torpedos , and are installed at an angle , so that a valve "drain timer "
can be installed at bottom of the reservoir , every minute " PFSSST " some air leaves the reservoir and spits humidity accumulated at bottom of reservoir.
that constantly drains humidity created by warmer air ,result of compressing the air , that warmer air touches colder surface inside system , and humidity is
deposited , just like water droplets get deposited when approching your cold beer can .

need to find crack or leak point , fix that ,then replace air by Nitrogen ,
..

UPDATE- so pump has still been running on outside air on occasion. Today I managed to get dealer maintenance records on the truck and the last entry says..customer states that when you shut truck off and air suspension levels out the L/R will sometimes go all the way down and then eventually level itself out- check and advise. Of course no work was performed. Theres also an entry last year about having replaced the rear right air bag. So today im about to leave work and the left rear is sunk all the way down just like I read in the maintenance records a few hours earlier! Didn’t notice any leaks. It pumped up got home and raised it to off road 2 to make it easier while I applied some decals and a while later I moved the truck to another part of the driveway parking it while in normal heigh mode and roughly 20 minutes later I walk by and hear a hissing sound coming from the left rear and I’m able to locate it to somewhere at the top of the airbag before the hissing stops and then after a minute or two the pump kicked on and it pumped it back up and shut off and no hissing sound. I’m guessing this is a valve issue? Is their a valve on the top of the air bags?

Final update-
So I don’t like leaving any forum posts without answers and I can finally close this case. I spent some time today and took off the wheel well inserts and sprayed everything with soapy water but never found the leak until I cycled the heigh settings and at some point when I set it back to normal height I heard the hissing at the rear left and stated spraying and it was leaking in the crease in the airbag. So in this case the air suspension leak was the air bag. I have one ordered and will replace it and before the cold weather have the system recharged with nitrogen.
