So as stated in another thread my air suspension is acting a bit odd. Now part of this may be that its new to me and I don't know what 'normal' is or what 'problem' is. I have had multiple "service air suspension" EVIC messages appear. I thought it was due to my truck not having the air suspension software flash done - however i have confirmed that it was done prior to me buying the truck.

i've noticed that the rear "compressors" or whatever is back there constantly make noise. there is a series of clicks, it is a pattern, and it is consistent. they will make 4 "click" sounds like something is engaging. this happens when the truck has not been running, has been sitting overnight. i tend to hear this when i approach the truck with the key fob and unlocking/opening a door. i need to make it clear - this is not because i am pressing the "lower" button on my fob.

this past weekend the truck lowered itself twice. this happened each time with the truck off, had not been driven, did not have keys anywhere near the vehicle.

yesterday i took the truck to local dealer who confirmed there were 8 stored messages and they spoke to chrysler engineers who recommended to "reconfigure" the entire truck which meant some sort of electronic 'reset'. they could find no other problems. i took the truck home yesterday.

this morning while washing truck, again it had been sitting for over 14 hours since last driven. no keys anywhere near the truck. the rear of the truck lowered twice. the front of the truck is not lowering. continued to hear the same clicks/mechanical noises.

has anyone had ANY of these symptoms? do you hear your air suspension "system" doing "something" when the truck is not running, has not been running, etc?

i have called back to chrysler customer service and to their credit they have agreed that this requires escalation and assigned to a case manager. they have been supportive as was the local dealer; nobody is saying this is normal or questioning if these events are happening. if any of these symptoms have happened to you can you take a moment and comment here? i'm open minded to consider some of these might be normal functions, but the sporadic lowering is one that i can't see as being normal or intended under any scenario.

thanks all.

Not normal at all.....my truck did a few times go up or down by itsself before i got the update done! Knock wood nothing since....
When it did go up or down it always did it both front and back at the same time, never just the front or the back! I am sure once they locate the software glitch your truck will be fine......heres hoping!

I should mention that the truck rear is meant to raise if loaded......it really sounds like you have a software problem/bad chip.....

The only time my air suspension does anything with the truck off is when I am putting stuff in and taking stuff out of the bed of the truck. There is no "clicks" other than the sound of the air pump running.

hi - i've never put anything in the bed other than the dualliner, and i don't think that's going to be a weight issue :) seriously though, that's why i'm pushing so hard on this, i can't come up with a reasonable answer to explain why/what it is doing so i have to assume its a problem. and then once you convince yourself there's a problem, especially on a new vehicle, you are going to have a hard time being told "nope, no problem!". thanks guys. i'll post whatever happens, even if ultimately it is "nope, no problem!" :p

My money is on software/bad sensor(s) causing system to move.....can u imagine the lines of code that go into running all the systems on these trucks!

Mine does not run the compressor unless I'm loading or unloading while it is off.

Maybe you should ask the dealer to do the flash again. I don't think there would be any harm in re-flashing. Maybe the 1st one didn't take.

Basically the ED has a network of processors, sensors and devices. When it works right, which for me has been most of the time, its great. When there is a glitch, which definitely seems to be happening here, its a mystery to figure out where it is. Software, if so where? hardware, if so where? if it's both? OMG. I have noticed that there are a few in this forum who think it all should be perfect. I get it. but this isn't a perfect world and we put these trucks through its paces for sure.

My company installs RFID Security systems in Hospitals. it is mission critical in that we are classified as Life Safety. We have chased gremlins like this and it can sometimes take weeks. usually it is a simple fix, just a hard time locating it.

For those that think RAM is bad, well i have had the same issues with the other 19 vehicles I own. Ram, GM, Ford, Acura, Honda, and so on. It's how the dealer treats you when this happens that is the real issue here. Change dealers if they look at you like you have three heads.

Just my $0.02

Closest I've come so far Jeff is when I leaned on the tailgate while installing my Tonneau - the truck pushed back on me...LOL

I'm thinking while someone is saying the first reflash was done, it may not have been done - factory expected dealer to do it; dealer assumed factory did it, etc.

If it WAS actually done, there has got to be a bad sensor or component somewhere. Maybe your suspension control chip shipped with a Napoleon Complex and is always trying to make itself seem bigger? Have you tried powdering some Viagra and sprinkling it over the truck? Maybe a nice poultice on the control unit will cure things. Exorcism? Could make for a fun party. :)

nope haven't tried those. i've resorted to drinking some beer while standing and glaring at it. that doesn't seem to have helped. it hasn't hurt any either so i'll consider it a victory.

Problem spotted!

SCOTCH, not beer... ;)

Look, if it'll help, I can be an ordained minister in about 30 minutes tonight (God bless the Interwebs). Meet me in Medford OR on Sunday morning and we can do the Exorcism, then grab a short stack at Denny's before 9... :)
