Backup Camera

Has anyone had issues with their back up camera. I've been experiencing an intermittent issue with a fuzzy screen. Like and old analog tv antenna. At the dealer know to see if they can pin point the issue.

Looks like the camera or display maybe both have been drinking.

Hey! I had the exact same thing happen on my '16 ED. I could open and close the tailgate and it would go back to normal. Took it to dealership and they ended up replacing the camera assembly. No more problems!

That's what their diagnosis is, bad camera. Should be in next week and we'll see if that fixes the issue. I have read were folks would get a blue screen, but I didn't see anything about a fuzzy/distorted image.
Same problem here. Contacted the dealership, replaced a week later under warranty. Had the ED 7 months when it happened.
New camera has been installed for a couple weeks and it hasn't failed yet.
If the tailgate is aloud to drop or drops on it's own the camera lens can be damaged. Wife's 300 had the same problem. I closed the trunk and it popped back open checked to make sure noting was in the way and re-closed it and it still popped back open. So......yep I slammed the damn thing closed and the next time Mama got in the car she said there was something wrong with the back up cam. Dealer replaced the camera and trunk latch and told me not to slam the trunk anymore lol.

Good reason to install a DeeZee tailgate assist

Never gave it much thought about the tailgate slamming down, could damage camera, but it does make sense. That would be a pretty big jar to camera. Guess it a good thing I have the deezee installed.
I have the same problem/same blurred image at times Opening and closing the tailgate solves the problem for a little bit. I have a 2016 with 37000 miles. Anyone know if this is covered under the 100,000 warranty or the 34,000 warranty? I don't think it is, any idea where I can take it where it won't be dealership prices to fix?

Why didn't you get it fixed under warranty? I would think any camera repair shop could fix it. Your dealer might be able to get it covered under warranty if you are only 1000 or so miles out.
I had the same issue within 2 years of buying the truck. Dealer changed under warranty. Recently camera started to act again. No more warranty. I had a truck for 3 + years. Bought it new. Let's see how much dealer will want to change it again. Otherwise I will do it myself.
Looks as if my camera was changed before (used 2015). Found the part that hooks the wires up in the bed in my glove box. First time I’ve had a backup camera before and still trying to get use to it!
just got my 2022 1500 back from the dealership getting a oil change and this started not even two months old yet first 5000klm on it

Hi: Molecular_Mecanic... When this used to happen to me I simply got out, opened the tailgate, and slammed it shut again. Got the picture!!! You OTOH can take the cover plate off it, find the camera power plug and clean the contacts.

I have this issue every once in awhile on my 3500.
I either just hit the tailgate above the camera or slam the tailgate shut and it clears right up.
One of these days I’ll take the cover plate off and check/ clean the contacts.
I also purchase a tailgate shock so my tailgate will open smooth and slow without the accidental slamming.
had the same issue on my 2016, it was not the camera. there is a connector behind a plastic door at bottom of tailgate on bed of truck. It is for the removal of tailgate . The connector gets dirty makes poor connection disconnect and clean and add some dielectric grease to connector. Have not had a problem since

I had the same issue as everyone here. I took the hatch off the tailgate to get to the plug for the camera. Took it apart and gave it a good cleaning. Plugged it back in and have not had any issues since.

Easy fix for me. Hope it's the same for anyone else.

Edit: just saw rad said the same thing. Should have kept reading the thread.

Hi: Shhhhakaka... After several scrambled vids I took mine apart and cleaned the contacts. I also had my "Clock cleaned" too!!! Putting my truck in reverse is traumatic enough as I'm always on the lookout for "Stella Antics" standing behind my truck. I rarely remember to look at the screen. That's what the "Dumbo" ears are for anyhoo.
