Hey guys,

I am new to the site. I bought myself a 2014 ram 1500 ED. I have put about 10000 kilometers on it, and am reading a lot about blow by. Should I be considering putting on a catch can? I plan on keeping the truck for awhile. I have heard the provent is a good catch can to go with?? Any help would be much appreciated.

P.S. I will put a pic of the rig up as soon as I'm off work! !

Oil separator , cleans the sh* t out of your oil . Mustangshawn posted about sludge moisture that you can remove from the oil . Morroso makes the one he mounted I belive.

A catch can separates oil and sluge from an oil and gas mixture after condensation. I saw a guy on YouTube did a moroso install, but he had to tap in another line due to pressurization issues. I was wondering if the provent catch can needed these supplementary lines for pressurization!???

Just do a search. This has been debated, argued, nearly came to virtual fist fights, etc. You have one built in from the factory. There is a picture of it in one of the threads.

It can be done, but most have the opinion that it is not necessary (but not everyone agrees!). The computer is very sensitive and may activate a CEL when you make any modifications.

The factory one you refered to ,we're is it can it be cleaned at what interval .

Thanks for the info. I have done searching and found the lengthy thread with mustangshawn and the boys. It seems the moroso filter with tapped vacuum line is the only true solution so far. I am also not convinced this is a real issue. I'll keep reading.

I think he pulled over a quart of oil from his intercooler. So I think post warrenty it's a problem we all need to deal with.

I posted about the so called blow by before, I have yet to see the sludge in other pictures. These are pictures of my truck with over 27k miles on it, this is the long vertical cylinder on the drivers side between the turbo and the intercooler.

Looks pretty carboned up?? this is my first diesel, so I am learning here. I apologize for my ignorance. I ran a 1999 1500, 5.9 magnum up until now. Charliebrown, have you installed a catch can? or any type of device? I also hear the ecodiesel have an oem separator system?

I was talking with my shop Forman at dodge today he had mentioned to make sure to run a winter front I the winter as he had two ED's freeze up on him this winter. He said dodge figures this is due to moisture getting in the Intercooler from the PCV and untlimately freeling the piston(s) to the block . He also said that dodge is currently working on a catch can and should be released as a recall. He also said that the only thing left to do is sort out some emissions requirements. He couldn't give me a time line on when it would be released, but hopefully before next winter!!

Where did your buddy get his info regarding the catch can. Any additional info on this would be great. Who at dodge told him.

I am not aware of any OEM catch cans to this point from any manufacture.

They can potentially be a environmental issue and most people would not maintain one.

Is anyone aware of any factory supplied catch can?

After talking with my dealer shop forman. He has informed me that dodge is working on something to deal with the condensation from the PCV. I would assume it will have some sort of oil filter also. He said it will be similar to the OEM setup that is currently on the 6.7's.
