I have 220,000kms on my 2015, delete tune from Celtic. 3”flo pro turbo to muffler, threw that code yesterday and came to a
Quick stop. Tried resetting codes, says one p-0336 is permanent and truck will not start. Sitting in driveway now. Here’s the question, is this dealer only repair for best results or does anyone know of good reliable mechanic in Burlington Ontario? New to the area. Thanks

Since you're deleted and tuned, and obviously out of warranty, going to the dealer is not inclusive. And the dealer is going to use book rates. A good mechanic that has done this repair before should be able to get right on it and do it for less.

But the dealer may have the most experience in this repair, which involves removing the transmission. Any shop with the proper jacks, lifts, etc, this isn't that big of a deal as it sounds.

I guess your question to any shop is "have you done this repair before?" and hope they tell you the truth.

Good luck. Have you crawled underneath and inspected your wires? Varmints are known to chew on this sensor wire harness.

Thanks for the replies, I have crawled under. Wires all look good. Everything seems tight. Truck was just undercoated a couple weeks ago too which makes it even more fun. I have a tranny specialist that is apparently very reliable and trustworthy I am hoping to get the truck into this Tuesday. I tried a hard reset myself with battery disconnected for about 5 minutes. No difference. Truck just turns over and throws a permanent P-0336 code. I’ll give updates when I know.
Toronto auto show this weekend and my truck has first major failure at 220,000kms, sign from auto god? 🙏🏻😁

Of all the things that can go wrong on our EDs, the crank position sensor worries me the most. I am not wringing my hands or losing sleep mind you, and I do have the drive train and Maxcare warranty, but knowing this problem may crop up after the warranty period is troubling.

I know it was easy for the engineers to take the timing off the rear of the crank, but for ease of maintenance I do wish they had put it up front somewhere. Perhaps one of our diesel vendors will provide us with an aftermarket work around that will avoid the costly and time consuming repair.

This one worries me again too. My daughter was driving luckily on city street and was right by a side street and turned right onto it quick. She said warning lights shot on truck did a really quick braking and just stopped. What would happen at 115kph in traffic? seems like a safety hazard for sure. maybe a redundancy system built in would be better. One fails the truck would still run but give warning. With all the highway driving I do heading to northern Ontario I am seriously considering a new(er) truck maybe with warranty too. I've been a diesel guy for 20 years with 2 cummins diesels which I loved and I expected this truck to run well to 300,000 with proper care. Who knows.

Update, well it was the reluctor ring. Just going back together now. Should have truck back tomorrow. Changed sensor too, since all the labour was crazy to get in there.
What a great design
Less than a week. Good. Thanks for the update.

Got a handle on just what the whole thing cost?

My mechanic gave me prices of $440 and $75 USD. So we're right in the same ballpark as that translates to $580 and $99 CAD.

Heading to get truck soon I hope. He was going for drive test a while ago. He called around and all the parts suppliers said oem for the parts. Within a couple years good names like Bosch will start making the parts at a fraction of the price once the demand is there. 220,000 he said my transmission fluid looked new. All highway kms which helps. I did the math on my driving since all my co-workers think I should get a tundra, based on 1.00 a litre and 15 l/100kms for the tundra which is being generous, this ecodiesel has saved me 11,000 in fuel
Over 4years. Hopefully another 220,000kms before that ring fails again. I’ll update when I get the total bill.

Cost of repair

Crankshaft sensor 585.50
Reluctor ring 103.00
C-s bolts 4.50x6
Labour 855.00
Enviro fee 10.50
1581.00
Plus tax , =1786.53 Canadian

Can’t complain. Mechanic was Chris Smith at Brant transmission, really
Professional and very friendly, seemed up front back honest. I will
Definitely be recommending his shop and he is my go to guy in this area for car/truck repair.

This just happened to me, had it towed and they said it was covered under my extended warranty, had to get a rental for a week before they got around to it.
About 10 hours of work to drop the transmission, new wheel and sensor.
They said it would have been at least $1,500 without taxes and the cost of a rental if I had not bought that extended warranty.
My 2015 EcoDiesel was at 108,000km in to my 120k extended warranty. Glad it happened now and not after.

My 2018 ED has 5,500 miles and I have had the transmission replaced (7 weeks at dealer) now a week after getting my truck back, the truck stalled at 35 mph with all kinds of lights flashing the code is P0335. I absolutely love this truck when it is running however I have never owned a vehicle that is so unreliable.

This is all covered under the factory 100K power train warranty if it fails within 100k miles, correct? I know the EGR cooler isn't covered under factory warranty and it typically fails over 100K miles from what I've seen.

Very strange indeed. Is 335 closely related to 336 code wise?

What is the build date on your 2018?
