This is a post from me in August.
DRLs on my 2014 ECO Diesel are working. Wednesday was my 10,000 miles service. I asked the service guy please can the tech look into turning my DRLs on. I explained I had seen people on the forums had it done and told him I had some screen shots of the software install. He told me if it could be done he would be happy the charge me $59 as he will already be in the software doing an update for the recalls. I left the dealership and was going to await his call when it was ready. About 30 minutes went by and my phone rang the service rep said I have some good news I have the sales code for the DRLs from the parts department and we will be able to install the DRLs. Fantastic!!
Went back after lunch to pick the truck up and the service rep had some bad news for me. We just can't do it. They had tried many different ways to get the code in the software but with no luck... This is what the tech wrote on the ticket. "Added DRL sales code to the options -attempted to add DRLs No good. Changed Country to Canada and attempted again NO GOOD---- Unable to program DRLs in this Vehicle Customer Advised"

So I left the dealership thinking this was the end of trying to get the DRLs to work.... Until I was in car riders line picking up my son from school that afternoon when I saw a reflection of my head lights in the rear bumper of the car in front... Looked at the switch, lights off and auto was off to.. Drove home jumped out the truck to check, NO LIGHTS ON.. Even when it was running and in gear with the E brake on NO LIGHTS.. Until last night I got the wife to check one more time. In gear NO E brake YES they work.. The light is from the low beam not the turn signals and is about 75% power of normal head light. I checked the back lights and yes they are not on. So it can be done. But the dealer thinks it can't..
Mark how did you get your DRL's on?

Thanks for the info Mark.

Yes, I am a jerk.... Then again, had I not said what many were already thinking, it would not have been proven untrue.

Now we can follow the OP's situation knowing that his words are true, and he is not another troll trying to disparage our fine trucks,
No, not a jerk... just expressing your opinion. Good for you!

Now the OP can disparage our fine trucks without being a troll. Just kidding.... :D

DRL info from another thread:

DRLs have a SALES CODE, if your dealership will connect up the StarScan machine, they should be able to add the sales code & activate the DRLs

LMK Daytime Running Headlamps, High Beam
LM1 Daytime Running Headlamps, Low Beam
LM5 Daytime Running Headlamps, Dedicated

I chose Dedicated which are the parking lights.

Laramie QC, CG, 3.92 G/R delivered 11/14/15

I live in Florida. My dealer, Firkins in Bradenton, has been very cooperative. ven repaired a dented hood caused by "the unknown". It's nice to know who is nice.

Tell us when you are ready. Thanks for all the information so far.

Found the little hole in the block.. Its about 6 x 4. Con rod is well in frame on one of the photos.. I don't think we will ever get to the bottom of this. The warranty guy drove me to the airport and said they never get to here the out come.. I dont think its coolant in the oil.. Oil is still in good shape. I think it was the main bearing seizing to he crank that made all the noise. Not a belt
.. What ever it was we will just have to wait for a recall if they think we need one.

That's just nuts!

I'm glad they are taking care of you so quickly...

When this is all over and done with I will share the dealer with you all.. Its not a secret. I just want this to go as smooth as possible before the end..
Wise move. Good luck.

Thanks for the information and pictures. OUCH!

No fixing that.

I may be a real moron here, but i have two questions. First, what the heck is drl? Im assuming a light, but whats its purpose?

Second, i see the giant crack, where exactly are we looking? Driver side passenger side? Oil pan? Side of block?

Sorry in advance for dumb questions!!

No such things as dumb questions.. DRL stands for daytime running lamps. When my ram is on and in gear, the front turn signals (LED's) are on....

Some areas (IE Ontario) require DRLS to be sold on vehicles built and sold since 1991.

Where he says "con rod," that means "connecting rod." Also referred to as rods sometimes. It is the part that connects the piston to the crankshaft to generate torque and get you motivating down the road.

I see it now i think. The 2nd picture is from the bottom correct? I can see where the rod is bolted to the crank. I was looking for it in the 1st picture, thats why i couldnt make sense of it. If the squeally sound was the main bearing siezing why did it crack the crank case, pressure? I thought typically to crack the case a rod would have to come off the crank and impact the case? Seeing as how the main bearing is lubricated by the oil, wouldnt a siezure in the crank be caused by lack of oil or the wrong oil? Or is it a possibility foriegn debris caused the siezure? Just curious, because he would have already had at least one oil change right?

And in regards to the drl, does that mean trucks in Canada have the lights on all the time where as ours come on when we switch them on? These would be the equivalent to out parking lights/clearance lights? I wasnt aware it was a mandatory thing some places. All i know about Canada is that they come to the tractor pulls i go to in BG Ohio. Sorry for being so uncultured to our friends in the north.
