Question. I have a 2021 Ecodiesel Limited. I'm about to cross 23,000 miles and I haven't seen any signs of a regen taking place. Is this normal? I use Platinum DEF fluid and a Hot Shot diesel additive with each tank. Wondering what other owners experiences have been. Thanks.
I watch my regen's aggressively and you would never know unless you hook up to the computer to monitor it. Depending how much city vs highway driving you do it's a fair bet they are happening every 200 to 500 miles (based on my experience).
Thanks Jent. Like you, I monitor things pretty closely and assumed I'd see the regen light on for a few minutes. Also still waiting on the recall high pressure pump to come in.
The eco diesel only notifies you if you have interrupted several regens by turning the engine off and the DPF is getting too full. I have never seen it, and I have had my DPF over 80% a few times and once just over 90%. I wish they would notify you, and I wish you could also self-engage it.
That's good news.
If everything is normal, you should not see any regen message. Like jent said, you will get a message after several failed regens. The Platinum DEF will not change the frequency of regens as the DEF system has nothing to do with the regeneration of the DPF.
The only way I see it is if the mpg takes a hit for about 10-12 minutes at highway speed, a bit longer on urban roads. It will jump up about .2l per 100km or bout .09 gal/100 miles US. Then it drops right back down.
Thanks for asking the question as I've been wondering the same thing... I keep the instantaneous fuel monitor up all the time and have never noticed any hit to mileage -- what kind of hit does it take when it's regenerating?
I would say ~5 to 8mpg loss during regen. It seems discreet enough that if you did not have other signals it was occurring you would not be able to notice from an instant mpg reading (it's too variable anyways).
