I just sent an email to Ram regarding the build and price too. After seeing the test of 3.92 gears, I had to check. The Outdoorsman 4WD that I want only shows the 3.55 gears available. Not all that bad with the 8 speed transmission. I check the Outdoorsman 2wd, and you can put 3.92 gears in it. Then, I checked the express 2WD, and yes, 3.92, 3.55, and 3.21 are the options. Then I checked the express 4wd and it did have 3.92 as an option. So, I am hoping that the build and price just has an error, and that I can get 3.92 gears. I will have to make a new gearing chart for it. But with the torque and the creeper 1st gear, man, this thing will have some pull.

I was curious about the 3.92 gearing but a couple of people who know much more about this than I do said the 3.55 is better all-around gearing even at max payload. The 3.92 is only for frequent, heavy towing and will hurt the low-revving diesel's fuel economy and general drivability. That said, they must provide it just for you!

Looking around various places I see the 3.92 both listed and not listed for the 4x4 Outdoorsman diesel which is a mystery. We probably will not know for sure until the dealer places the order. I have been frustrated with Ram's option packages, too. Good luck with getting what you want.

Dear Matthew:

It is great to read of your interest in the 2014 Ram 1500!

Please be advised, although the 3.0L EcoDiesel Engine is reflected
within our "Build & Price", the 2014 Ram 1500 models are not yet
available for factory order equipped with the 3.0L EcoDiesel Engine. At
the present time, no specific timing has been provided as to when the
2014 Ram 1500 models equipped with the 3.0L EcoDiesel Engine will enter
the factory order system.

According to our preliminary provided resources, the 2014 Ram 1500
Outdoorsman 4x4 factory ordered with the 3.0L V6 Diesel Engine and
8-Speed Automatic Transmission will be standard factory equipped with
the 3.55 Rear Axle Ratio. Our preliminary resources indicate that the
3.92 Rear Axle Ratio will not be an available option with the 3.0L V6
Diesel Engine combined with the 8-Speed Automatic Transmission.

Our best suggestion would be for you to keep in contact with your
preferred Ram dealership as the ordering system changes on a frequent
basis. Your preferred Ram dealership will be first informed as to when
they are capable of placing an order on your behalf and are the best
resource for the most up-to-date factory order timing and product
information. They will be the best resource to confirm the options that
are available on the 2014 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman 4x4, once the 3.0L V6
Diesel Engine enters the factory order system.

At the present time, the 2014 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman 4x4 is available for
factory order with the 3.6L V6 24V VVT Engine and the 5.7L V8 Hemi MDS
VVT Engine. The 2014 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman 4x4 factory ordered with the
3.6L V6 24V VVT Engine and 8-Speed Automatic Transmission is standard
equipped with the 3.55 Rear Axle Ratio and if factory ordered with the
5.7L V8 Hemi MDS VVT Engine combined with the 8-Speed Automatic
Transmission is standard equipped with the 3.92 Rear Axle Ratio. Our
resources indicate that the 3.92 Rear Axle Ratio is not available with
the 3.6L V6 24V VVT Engine when factory ordered on the 2014 Ram 1500
Outdoorsman 4x4 model.

Please keep in mind, when configuring the 2014 Ram 1500 Express 4x4
model, the vehicle is standard factory equipped with the 5.7L V8 Hemi
Engine combined with the 6-Speed Automatic Transmission and the 3.0L V6
Diesel Engine is not slated to be available for order on the Express
model.

Maureen - Thanks for the information.

I have a truck "on order" but it's not "on order" - just waiting with deposit in the sale's manager's office at Firkins in Bradenton, Fl. Fortunately - my Cummins rules and I do get 21 - 23 mpg with it. Of course it's an '04 with 210K on it.
