First post!

I have two 2017 Eco-Diesel Trucks that have been reacquired or repurchased by FCA. Likely because of lemo laws.

One has 1800 miles and the reason for repurchase was "exhaust smell in the cab" This is a North Dakota Truck

Second has 10,000 miles and the reason for repurchases was "Check engine light is on". This a Mississippi truck.

Assuming they drive fine currently, I would do the full GDE Hot Tune and Transmission package,

Thoughts? No problem? Run as fast as I can?

The exhaust smell is likely a fairly straight forward issue. If the dealer is offering a good price and they have a bumper to bumper and you have the time to torture them with it... Then sure.

If u are looking for a problem free ride I'd reconsider.

Some early two-wheel drive models had the flex exhaust coming out of the turbo, leak. Easy fix though I think a 2017 model would have that corrected.

What is the CEL code? Get a reader and solve that. Might be a stupid nothing.

GDE hot tune fixes a lot of simple and common issues without having to do a full delete. Way cheaper than that delete, it sure seems to work well. Nothingyou described stands out as being serious.

I think a lot of people read all the doom and gloom about these things, see what the maintenance costs are and have buyers remorse. To be honest, I'm second-guessing!

Do careful complete review of a buy-back, AND have a diesel specialist, familiar with the quirks of the EcoD go over it.
That said, the 'smell inside cab' is probably the safer of the two forsure. Buyer didn't know that diesel trucks have not so subtle smells. Buyers remorse and lots of visits to force the Lemon Law access. Still, have someone that knows the trucks and their emissions systems to make sure all is well.
Knowing that the enhanced s/w that allowed the 2017 pass EPA, understand that mpg and performance arent as stellar as they were originally, and the trucks trade-in IS harmed BADLY by the FCA / CARB+EPA lawsuit.
Know what you need. Check it out carefully. KNow that GDE is not presently selling any EcoD tune stuff now. SFT maybe.
