Anyone have the fuel and oil filter numbers for the 2020 Ecodiesel Gen3? They have moved the fuel filter on the left side of chassis under driver's seat, real easy to get to. The fuel filter has a different water drain and easier to drain and not as messy. The oil filter looks like the ones on the gen2 but I never had an eco diesel just seen the oil changes on youtube. The eco diesel oil and fuel filter looks like it is a hold lot easer to change than my 0ld 1995 Cummins 4x4 that we sold before we bought our 2020 Limited 4x4. We hated to sale the old boy but I didn't need a 2500 truck any more but it is 25 year and in better shape than me.

The fuel filter on '20 DT is the same as the '19 and newer 2500+ with the Cummins. Finding those is easy.

The new oil filter on the Gen3 3.0L is different than the old one, cannot be used interchangeably. The new filter also comes with the cap, you are not supposed to separate them just replace the whole thing together.

We were at the dealer end of the week and oil filters for the Gen3 diesels (DT and JL) are backordered until June. There are one here and another there at random dealers around and a few we see online, but they have to come from Italy and nothing is shipping from there except "essential items."

Today, 9 April 2020, yesterday evening, as I sat here in Corona sequestration, I received the forum thread referencing the oil formulation changes, through the posting in my email.... reading the oil formulation thread, I
blew some gaskets when I read on a few of the postings here that the oil formulation for the new 2020 eco had been changed to the same thing as the Fiat Spyder.... well, that was an aaarrrggghhh.... then I really became disjointed when I read in another posting, that FCA is screwing with us on the oil filter... So, first thing this morning, coffee in hand, I jumped into my other dork mobile and ran to the closest FCA dealer 30 miles away... Sat down with the Parts and Service manager and had them break out both the Gen II and Gen III filters, and, I took with me a NAPA and WIX filter for measuring up... sure thing, FCA is going to screw us all with the all NEW made in CHINA filter... $90 before taxes, but, it comes with a new part number and the same ole Gen II filter is now locked into a cap... so now not only do get a new filter the filter is cap locked... you get both... Proprietary, so now my perfectly good made in the USA $20 WIX or NAPA filter is going to cost me including taxes, $100 for Chinese crap... and was also informed, that the filter and cap he placed before me, is, on it's 3rd superseding part number since the 2020's came out... so, in conclusion, whoever wrote the thread on the cap and filter part change, it's no bull... it's validated, we're getting screwed again by FCA... if it's not one thing, it's something else...

where is your thread on servicing yours?

Okay - so, take a few minutes, go over my thread on servicing mine.
there are pictures of the 2 different versions for the new Gen 3.
There’s only 2 so far.

The big difference, in the Gen 2 vs Gen 3, is that the Gen 3 has a bypass valve in the cap. If you need, I’ll be happy to explain what that does.

The original Gen 3 part number has the filter element available separately (your third part #). You’ll see in my thread you can disassemble it.
The updated number is one piece.

My theory, is that they had issues with the bypass valve clogging on longer term studies, when the element was all that was changed. (This is off the cuff speculation as to a logical reason to make the filter non-removable.)

As for the oil specification change, the new oils are apparently based on the MB 229.5 series specifications - The requirements aren’t as stringent, but the oils available typically meet or exceed 229.5, and it’s derivatives. Aside from not specifying anti-scuffing (HD Diesel Steel Piston bore scuffing spec, that really isn’t applicable on these), the requirement for 229.5 in terms of every other major data point, FAR exceed the old 10902!
