I have a 2015 Ed 4x4 lone star with a thrown rod. Truck will still crank and start but sounds like something is hitting the bottom of the engine with a hammer . Truck is clean and comes with lots of extras . I tried everything I could to get her back on the road but at some point you gotta let her go .

That's a fair price. Good luck with the sale. You say you tried everything, I heard new engines are shipping again and I'm thinking a new engine might get it back on the road.

What or who’s to say if I put all that money into a new motor that it won’t throw another rod these motors are known to fail at 20 k 60 k . I have been put through enough. I have sent to much im tapped out . I currently don’t have anything to drive . My boss has let me use the work truck . A 2000 ford f-350 with 532k miles and not even a check engine light! Ram care and FCA are ok with their trucks only lasting a quarter of that mileage . Makes me sick to think I paid 51,000 dollars on a truck that only lasted 174,000 miles I made the last payment , and two week later the truck dies . It’s a shame that this is acceptable.

Not what you expect or should expect out of any diesel👎, the ones I have owned have all gone 200+ with minimal issues, but no engine failures, had fuel issue with a VP44, lost a nut inside one of the manual trucks transmission, replace one solenoid in an auto, the VW had to do a turbo, and head gasket, the Oldsmobile I had would not run fast enough to hurt itself

got to admit if I had your truck I'd probably be looking at a BT4 or even better IMO, a Mercedes OM606, there is a member here that has done a very clean BT4 swap, and I think that would be an "easier" swap, but the Mercedes if you could work out transmission details (economically) would be nice

and you may just prefer to be shed of the Eco, I think most members here understand, but that is a nice truck to just sell, I know I'd like to have it just too many irons in the fire right now

Sucks I feel for ya. I replaced 2 myself. One at 371k and one at 423k but it still sucks to write the check.

New motors with 100k mile warranty are now available. Bought & installed for what $12k. Couple weeks and you got a great truck with a new motor. TUNE IT don’t baby it don’t do a one mile commute use T6 & Mopar fuel filters run it a couple 100k more miles. Quiet smooth fuel efficient. Lots of these out there with 200k+ now.

Oh find a dealership that sells lots of Ram diesels. They will have an actual diesel mechanic that knows how to properly trouble shoot them so that you have a good experience instead of a nightmare. Avoid the dealerships that sell almost exclusively gas cars don’t know the Ecodiesels and don’t even have certified diesel techs. These dealerships seem almond guaranteed to waste your time & money.

I totally understand, I would probably want to be done with it also. New engine with warranty would be tempting though

I think your doing right buy selling it as salvage. By the time you put a new motor you would have more in it then the truck is worth. And with those miles something else could go out These EcoD have bad resale witch I understand why.

I understand what you are saying, but I think the truck would be worth more than the 12 grand to replace the engine.

Yea maybe if I had 12k to just drop on a a new motor sure . I would love to have my truck back I loved that truck . I used the right oil changed it on time every time with mopar fillers. In fact for the first fives years I took it to the dealership and that did the oil changes.

Not sure where you're at . Here they are hard to come by ( ones that aren't trashed) and always go for a Premium..

Just got my 2015 back with a warranty replacement motor. I'm right at 96500 miles so it will be interesting to see if she how far this one will run.
Did "supposedly" come with a 3 year, 100K mile engine warranty....but.....I have tried multiple times to get something in writing from the dealership showing this warranty, but have yet to get anything. Still trying.

I'm thinking you'll (should anyway) get something from FCA, I would make sure it leaves the dealership with some kind of "ticket" that would indicate engine had been changed, but my thinking on paperwork that details the warranty condition rest completely on FCA..mainly because the only part of the warranty the dealership is "on the hook for" would be workmanship, and we'll Pray that was done correctly and everything hooked back up 🙏

If I had the dealership replace my engine it cost me 20,000 dollars . That’s what quoted me . Yea ! No that will never happen

The replacement engine should have a green sticker on front passenger side somewhere. Mine does, not sure how much it would help on warranty though.

If had the 12,000 or more for a new motor then that’s what I would do but since I can’t get help from fca or Ram don’t care . I gotta try and get something out of it .

Cashforcars.com I just offloaded my Ram '15 ecodiesel with 160k. They paid me $7,600. Dealership offered me $4,500.
