So my 2016 Dodge Ram has an egr fault. Talked to the service manager today and he basically brought it down to 4 issues.

It has 44513 km.

1. The quality of fuel in North America is lower than the quality in Europe. Therefore it burns dirtier and plugs the egr valve and cooler.
2. The engine was never made to operate in Canada's temperatures.
3. The vehicle was not designed to haul anything as it works to hard gets dirty and plugs up.
4. The design of the system is insufficient as that why they are now adding an EGR to the turbo to try to cool it as well.

So dropped it off no problems. Told its an EGR and it would be covered under warranty. Originally told that it would not be a problem not flashing the pcm and doing all the work and leaving it before the emmisions update. Then told they could not diagnose it if it didn't have the update first as the scan tool cannot communicate with it. Then finally figured out that they can and did diagnose it and now its diagnosed and they also found a 9 hour leaking timing cover job.

Check on it today and guess what. EGR cooler and EGR valve not covered under Canadian warranty. In total it is over $3700.00 to fix. $3400.00 just for the part. Its supposedly gummed up as shit as a failure of the system. These are the exact same fing parts that are covered under the U.S. Settlement extended warranty. So in the good ol USA they get seven years warranty and in Canada we get ****ed over and get three years.

That's not even the best part. The part is back ordered until December. I will not have a vehicle to drive until the middle of ****ing December.
Does anyone have any documentation on the reason on the extended warranty coverage. I am wondering why they decided to cover the parts that they did. Is there evidence of failure???? I need something to work with.

Thank you for anything.

You can pretty much find all the information and answers here on the issues you are having. You have pretty much summed it up right already. The real culprit is the EGR cooler. You need it either replaced under warranty.......no warranty then replaced at your cost or removed and deleted. But then you'll need your ecm tuned to handle the deletion.
And yes FCA is screwing us Canadians because they have not and will not be mandated to do anything by our weekass government agencies.

Holy shit. Well if I delete it then they void my warranty. If I don't fix it as that's what it is in for then they will void my warranty maybe. I downloaded all the forms and statements to do with the FCA judgement in the states. I think I am going to proceed to small claims court in Alberta. The limit here is $50,000.00 I have no Idea if it would be successful or if I can even take them to court here but it is worth looking into.

Guess it really does not matter. I am without a vehicle until December.

I cant believe how little consumer protection we have in this country.

HEY WHAT IF I DRIVE IT UNTIL DECEMBER AND SOMETHING FATAL HAPPENS IN THE MEAN TIME? They are not giving me a vehicle to drive. I need a vehicle! I need this fixed and they cant fix it until December..... Or can they hold onto the vehicle and not fix it and only give it back when its ready????

Also I could just sell it to someone in the states and they then qualify for the FCA judgement..... What a system. Whoever bought it would get cash. Get it fixed and get the warranty on it for 5 years lol. What a system.

Just put a tune in it a delete the egr.
Mine has been turned off for 90000kms now. Some day I'll have to buy the block off plates when the egr cooler starts to leak so I can remove and block it off. Keeps your engine from breathing soot and plugging up the intake and gumming up you valves
Green diesel street tune for the win

If you want to maintain your warranty call around to other dealerships close by yourself. I was told the same backorder from the USA story, no warranty and no loaner vehicle for my DEF issue. The emissions warranty is 2 years 40k km by the way lol. Anyways I had luck finding the parts myself and was only down for a week. If you want to take a gamble it is cheaper to order a GDE off road tune computer and either hollow out your current DPF and SCR or order delete tubing (which might not be stainless).

All that being said I drive a Hemi now. And I won't have another Eco in Canada unless I get that gold star warranty. Agree US has much better consumer protection. And Donald Trump didn't get caught doing blackface and brownface like our soon to be voted out prime minister did today. What an ass.

Vehicles Originally Sold in Canada

Vehicles originally sold in Canada and currently registered in the United States are eligible to receive the Approved Emissions Modification (“AEM”) and the Extended Warranty. The Extended Warranty will be effective after the (1) successful installation of the AEM and (2) registration of the vehicle with FCA US LLC by providing proof of state registration, proof of ownership or lease, and the current mileage/kilometers on the vehicle. (Note: Owners and lessees of these vehicles are not eligible for a class member payment under this class action settlement agreement.)

Please call 1-833-280-4748 to register your vehicle with FCA US LLC and schedule an appointment to have the AEM installed.

About the AEM

The AEM is a software update that is intended to ensure that the vehicle’s emissions comply with the emissions standards to which it was originally certified. There will be no hardware changes to your vehicle associated with the AEM. FCA will offer the AEM free of charge for all model year 2014 to 2016 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel and Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel Vehicles. The AEM is not expected to change any of the key vehicle attributes, such as average fuel economy, reliability, durability, vehicle performance, drivability, engine noise or vibration, or other driving characteristics.

You are in trouble because a delete or tune option is now very difficult to get. Unless you can tune that EGR mess out or delete it, there may not be another option short of buying and replacing all that crap to stock. Our EPA seems to have cracked down and maybe closed most if not all of the delete companies they can control. Maybe there is a Canadian or other foreign option for a program to shut it off. Then you will need to equipment to block it off. Reading that is now hard to find.

Not much help to you finding out this. Others are or will soon be in the same situation unless there is a delete or tune-out option. If that does not return or you find something that works, you are royally ............

Your warranty ain't worth shit on the truck emissions parts. You still have warranty in everything else.

Get a tune and EGR delete. Cost about $2100 total and get rid of it all.

Malone Tuning or GDE

Your service mgr is wrong. Euro diesel is dirtier than Canadian diesel. They have less Enviro protections than we do...and no def or EGR on their diesel vehicles.

my 2014 has 209000kms with zero emission issues. I deleted mine at 150000s. The killer in this engine is idle time...if it idles it dies. Mine has done every day a 7km commute to work and home...i run the winter front Sept 15 to June 15...

My truck pulls fine up to 1/2 ton standards...did install rear air bag .

Sorry to hear of the trouble

Worked out better than I thought. I was very nice to the service staff and they came through. FCA is covering the parts. My cost will be 400 out of 3800.00 I paid 193 today and will pay the rest when the part comes in and they do the rest in December. They did the 9 hour timing cover leak yesterday and did all the fixes but the v16.

Im glad to have it back that's for sure. But I guess I will have to keep topping up the coolant. Weird thing is they said my egr is not cracked........... If thats the case what part of the engine is leaking coolant then? Maybe this is a much bigger issue?????????????????????????????

have the air bag as well. I will do a delete when the warranty ends.

Glad you have a better outcome. I have a 2016 truck as well with same issue. They told me the parts would be in the next week. That was last week, maybe I should call them....

Mine has been refilled a gallon or so each time, 3 times since new. I now just turned 90K KMs. I did buy a extended warranty for 6/120 so mine was covered under that no questions asked.

I too and wondering now about where I will be left after that though.

Should have done the 6/160.
