I was wondering if the software update might be different for each model year and if those differences could explain the apparent difference in performance. Mine is a 2014 without any tune and the update made no real driveability changes. In fact, since it held all the gears longer on the upshift it actually felt peppier. It also downshifted quicker when slowing down or when adding load.

I cannot yet document any significant economy changes. I would expect a small reduction but haven't been able to see it yet.

PErhaps Jeeptec or others in the trade will know the answer to this.

I think a lot has to do with how you drive. Aside from the initial cold starting if you tend to drive like a grandpa then I think you will notice it more. I don't know if you read my thread about me bringing my truck back in after the AEM but the tech, who has done all my service and who I trust, claimed that he put an '18 through the same paces that he put my truck through when he tested mine and said that they both performed the same.
