LED foglight / lightbar help

3000 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  John Jensen
A while back I swapped out my stock bumper with fog lights with an after market bumper that had four 3" LED fog lights. I just cut the wires to the stock fog lights and wired in the after market lights. All was fine.

Fast forward.

I now added a LED light bar to the bumper, I also wired the light bar in with the 3" LED's and now the lights do not work.

I suspect that all of the lights together are drawing too much power and the "magic" of the truck will not let them on.

As a recap, the 3" lights work alone, the light bar works alone, but combined they do not.

Is there a way around this short of wiring in a new switch and light circuit? I'd really like to just push the head light button and have them all come on.

Thanks

I used the dash switch to power the relay, It seems to work great so far.
I get to use the same switch and the dash fog light symbol works.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Lucky,
Could you share a wiring diagram of how you made the relay install? I have pod fogs that are working fine using AlfaOBD LED settings. However, my neighbor is having the same problem you were having and I'd like to get your relay mod diagram to wire a relay in his system. AlfaOBD did not correct his problem which I'm sure is an overload of the stock ability.
You've done it, I don't want to reinvent it.
Thanks

Edit:
If no diagram, where did you tap into the dash switch wiring and the fog wiring?

Sorry, I don't have a diagram, I just used the positive wire at the original fog light plug when I gut the connector off. I used that positive to energize a typical 12 relay. The lights would run off a 12v+ wire that came from the battery to the relay.
Good enough - thanks
