Hello fellow eco owners. I have a 2019 Eco 4X4 tradesman with 36 k miles. I did have a problem with the truck requiring 5 different trips to my dealer for engine light issues. After replacing & purging parts of the emission system, they claim it was bad DEF. The last time in they cleaned out the DEF system and it has not been a problem since. Because of this I only have the dealer fill the DEF fluid so they can not blame me for bad DEF. I have had no more issues. Truck Runs great

I really like the truck (except the dead pedal when cold). . We tow a 27 foot Lance trailer with it. I do wish it was a 3/4 ton but it's mileage is great. I also use the truck as a daily driver.

I got an incredible lease deal on the truck and now its ending. Question is do i keep the truck or sell it ? With the diesel market changing (especially in California) and diesel fuel higher than premium gas. I owe 22 k , trade in is like 27k, private party is 27 to 29 k , dealers are at 30 to 34k.

Any comments or
advise would be appreciated.

thanks,

Nice looking setup. 99 percent of what I know about my Eco has come from this site. Still learning. These trucks are great until they are not. You might think about a Gen 3 or wait a few years for the new sixer.

Interesting that i was told it has the gen 3. Because its a classic, i am finding out its the last run of the gen 2. Not sure what improvements were implemented to the gen 2 for the 2019 run. I think if i decided to not keep it i would go to a 2500 with the cummings diesel.

Welcome! If you can afford payments on a newer, bigger, thirstier truck, and that's what you really want, go for it. If there's an available 2021-2023 3rd gen EcoDiesel nearby, get that instead. Otherwise run what you got until it no longer does what you want it to do.

If you tow often, like my wife and I do, just go for the Cummins, you'll not regret it. I towed with 3 different half ton trucks over the years, going to a 3/4 ton was a big difference.

I used to own a 2017 Ecodiesel, towing a 21 foot loaded up RV TT and a full box (and did this well) would garner 13.5-14.5 mpg towing on average. Sometimes as much as 16.4 mpg, IF, there was all day driving on flat and windless terrain.

I got fed up with the engine problems with the Ecodiesel, and sold it for the 2021 2500 Cummins. There was virtually no difference in mpg towing, maybe one mpg less. We did a short test tow with our new to us 29 foot 5th wheel. 13.5 mpg, I will admit I was surprised with this mileage, I expected much less, this thing is huge.

I never worry about the engine failing. It is a rare event for a truck I see people driving everywhere. This CTD is very popular.

Welcome to the forum - first post.

Read about the lease, money owed and another thing... "I do wish it was a 3/4 ton but it's mileage is great". All that tells me you should move on rather than keep an obsolete product with a questionable reliability record.

Now the "daily driver" and fuel mileage factors in another issue. There is not gasoline engine worth a crap for towing that will give you reasonable towing fuel mileage. If you only tow infrequently, consider a gas variant but only if you tow infrequently. You will not find another engine in a pickup that yields the fuel mileage of the Ecodiesel and has the towing capabilities of the Ecodiesel in a 1/2 ton class vehicle.

My advice then is for you to make your own decision based on your knowledge and fear of engine destruction many have with the Ecodiesel.

I have a 2018 that I use primarly as a daily or to haul light loads, several times a year I haul a enclosed trailer with race motorcycles. It's perfect for me. No issues at 106k miles, knock on wood, I just love the truck.
However, I would take the advise of Sourdo and Captainmal, if you tow on a regular basis, I would pickup a Cummins.
