I would stay with 5w30 if I were in a cool/cold climate like yourself. I'm sitting on a case of Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 ready for the next oil change before this big change, not worried about running it another 10k. Vern is pushing 200k with 5w30 and so many have had good lab analysis so why worry?

You can get it cheaper than that they Amazon prime. Sign up for a subscription and it drops to $16 a gallon. Add in the $5 rebate per gallon and you can get oil cheap.
So lame for Canadians, works out to $19.33 USD per 5gal container (after conversion from CDN prices and rebate)

Maybe FCA will send a TSB on revising (lowering) the price on the oil filters!!!

Is it weird that I check this thread once every hour? Lol. So that being said can anyone chime in on their thoughts of the old 5w-30 spec oil vs something like t6? Is it the consensus that it's a better or better for the ecodiesel engine? What does GDE say. I remember them commenting on it but I'm not 100% sure what their opinion was.

Video is fine except all RAM EDs hold 10.5 not 8 as he states for the 2014. He must have read something that referenced the Jeep or something. Also change intervals are 10k not 5k and fuel filter interval is 30k not the 15k that he referenced. Past warranty no reason 15k couldn't be a safe interval according to our oil analysis also BTIG site suggests this can be a normal interval for a full synthetic as it generally is in equivalent in Europe. Sorry i don't know where to reference that on their site just that I read it there and saw if referenced more than once.

So definitely doesn't fit the spec for the truck now. None of those FCA Material Standards match MS-10906 and the API and ACEA ratings are wrong.

True, however, it is MS-10902. MS-10902 is required. The oil must also be 5W40, synthetic and be API CJ-4 or ACEA E9/E7 or ACEA A3/B4

Leave it to Chrysler to throughly confuse everyone.

I didn't see MS-10902 in the description he gave.

I'd prefer any oil that goes into my truck to meet ACEA E7/E9 vs. ACEA A3/B4-10 as the A/B series are not specifically rated for use in Catalytic systems whereas E7 and E9 are designed specifically for diesels with EGRs, DPFs, DOCs, DEF, etc. and are forward thinking towards the highest tier emissions standards for Euro VI (which is likely parallels north american Tier 4.5)

From 2015 Owners Manual page 103: "We recommend you use 5W-40 synthetic engine oil such
as MOPAR or Shell Rotella that meets FCA Material
Standard MS-10902 and the API CJ-4 or ACEA E9/E7 or
ACEA A3/B4 engine oil category is required."

Yeah I know it recommends it, but if you look into the actual oil spec you'll see that oil doesn't reference anything about Catalytic or emissions systems and mentions light duty van diesel engines; whereas the E9/E7 spec does mention all of the individual emissions systems and that it is designed for us with them - so why wouldn't you use E9/E7?

It sure would have been nice if FCA would have specified a particular oil , with a complete name/description or better yet part number. There are several Shell Rotella's out there, and to easy to make a mistake cross referencing.

Well, I believe there is only one Rotella that is 5W40 synthetic, but I understand what you mean.
