whimpy little check engine light. Been having trouble w/ getting into gear from park every since tranny pan gasket leak. Took it in knowing they wouldn't follow fill procedure and sure enough. They went to wash it and couldn't get it to move. They "fixed" it and sent me home. Been having the going into gear problem and code for park by wire "unintended parking" every since. Took my lawn ornament in (havn't had time till now) and in 20 minutes or so comes out and says "well.. ordering you a new tranny, they want it back so i'll call you when it gets in. Should be half a day install." Also my gas mileage went right down the crapper from 28 +/- to 20+/-. Was blaming winter but now I havn't got a clue if the tran. did have a real problem or what, no idea.

Wow.

Thought about not posting because all my posts unintentionally sound like whines but truth is this is not a reliable low maintenance vehicle and I wanted the guy like me looking to get into one to know. Get extended warranty and pray every time I turn the key for anyone reading this thinking of owning one. Literally can't get 3000 miles without going into shop. Not to mention the service provide on these... I'm wandering what was dicked up the first time (maybe nothing was I don't know). To bad I actually like the thing. Will be researching something else, but at the same time hoping this is the last choke and hoping to keep it like I originally wanted. I've had it w/ electronic crapola, but i'm afraid that's the world today. At minimum get a full lifetime warranty setup on it, and I actually vote against those usually.

I know almost know nothing at this point including what codes were. I wrote it down and posted one time but forgot. He claimed it was different this time but who knows. I glanced at his paper and it was "P..." something. I'll update later but it will be a while cause i'm buried.

The ZF8 transmission for 2013+ is super reliable, but like any mechanical item it has a potential for a problem or breakdown. FCA would do well to offer an upgrade kit with the ZF trans for its older trucks, a lot of owners just dream of this option.

Prior to 2013 the RFE transmission was one of the big weak points of this truck, it was also at its inception over 20 years ago a 4 speed transmission. It was upgraded to a 5 speed later. (The RFE 6 speed is still technically a 5 speed auto trans with the manual capability of running through 6 speeds.)

Agreed it's very uncommon to have transmission problems with these trucks. I don't think you sound whiny some just don't have a good experience. Those that have problem child trucks seem to be from a variety of reasons sometimes it's a terrible drive cycle and they don't know how to counter that. Some would say in that scenario that they bought the wrong tool for the job. Many have very crappy dealership service departments. Some..

I had a lot of problems with my 2014. I was at the dealership every other week with a new MIL light. Never the same problem, always a fresh one. And everything was an electrical issue. Finally had enough of it and traded for a 2016. My 2016 has just about been flawless with the exception of a faulty window motor. I'm happy to have traded.

Sometimes in mass produced anything, you're going to have a few bad apples. But those bad apples won't spoil the entire bushel.

Sorry for your luck.

I've got a '14 with nearly 50k miles and have had only 2 issues. Both were extreme headaches; seemed like I bought the worst truck in the world! First was the whole SCR code and was fixed, second was a bad Timing Cover/Cylinder Head Cover Gasket that took 3 trips and 34 days to resolve (parts delay). Ive driven nearly 35k miles since without a single issue.

Sounds like you got bum gasket that ruined your tranny! Maybe stick with it and you'll get 100k trouble free miles after your issue is resolved.

A code that begins with a "P" will refer to an issue with the "Power Train" an any related components.

Good Luck!

So got my tranny a while back and running good now. For future reference to everyone tranny trouble drug my gas mileage to the dirt, something to keep an eye on. I'm back at my 25-28 now even in winter. I posted a while back concerned w/ my mileage dropping and blamed winter fuel. I kind of knew something was wrong when it was reading 20 in the last weeks before taking it down, haha. Anyway, this could mean I could be even better when warm again. Hard to believe but I got a 35 reading (per computer) on a run of flatter land on the way home. GDE tuned btw, and it was not flashed in the process which I worried about.
I'm actually not that happy, i'm fairly skeptical and frustrated. This has been the worst vehicle by far I've ever owned, but I'm hoping it will get better now. I've been on the phone and doing my homework and finding out that these can be headaches. My next plan is to figure out a long term coverage for the life of it, or ditch it. Just havn't sat down and thought out the math yet. I have a bumper to bumper till 136000 to think it over and I'm at 44 something. I had my window squirters replaced cause on the way down I realized they were dead too.. both of them (salt in the wound). Honestly it still feels the same driving.
All I know is it ran great even when broke but the tranny temp. was cooler then normal, and it refused to go into 8th most of the time. I know that makes no sense at all. when I got home I noticed oil coming out of a fitting in a new place when I crawled under it. Its literally almost touching the hardest to reach part of the fire wall behind engine . I'll keep an eye on it.
Sorry it took so long to update. thanks for input.

Hopefully I can hang. Sorry it took so long to post update.
