If they would have dumped in a standard CJ4 5w-40
The rumor on the street is that GDE has been running Rotella T6 in the gen 3 engine with no problems. Based on what they know about the two different engines, they don't understand why Ram changed the oil spec for the new engine. Maybe I'll contact GDE to see if they can give me more feedback. Without seeing a UOA report, it's hard to know how well each engine oil protects the engine.

It would be interesting to get their take on all this. I know there are several UOA reports out there for using Rotella in the 3rd Gen that look absolutely fine. I suspect these engines really aren't as picky as FCA makes them out to be.

Are there? I have yet to see a UOA report with T6 in a gen 3 EcoDiesel. I've heard a few people say they are going to do it, but I haven't seen it. Can you show me one of those reports?

There's nothing too alarming in that report. It's quite possible that the oil spec boils down to emissions. The Platinum Euro is a low-SAPS oil, which is going to be better for the DPF when it comes down to part longevity. If that's the case, then Amsoil will be the better oil since it has less ash than even Platinum does.

I suspect FCA teamed up with Pennzoil and this is just a marketing money maker…
Rotella and Pennzoil are owned by the same company (Shell). But yes, FCA/Stellantis has a contract with Shell and has for several years. There's nothing wrong with that, though. Rotella and Platinum are both good oils.

The good news is that I'll be switching to Rotella T6 after my next two oil changes. The bad news is that it may take 12 months before I switch to T6. I'll continue taking UOA samples using Pennzoil Platinum which will allow for a good comparison when I do switch to T6.

I ran T6 in my 2020 the first 90,000 miles and sent for UOA and the oil must have been lost in shipping. Never heard a word. But never had any problems either.

FYI, I updated the front page. Mopar 68524020AA 5W-40 now replaces 68231020AA.

Perfect timing Biodiesel. I just used one of my oil changes at the dealer last week and this matches. You saved me from another mystery. I’m sending a 6300 mile sample into Oil Analyzers this round.

No actual change to the oil as far as you know?

Iran T6 in my 2020 for the first 90,000 miles was zero problem. Once I found out the owners manual had a typo I switched
How many miles do you have on your 2020 currently?

For my 2019 Ram 1500 eco diesel, I called Mobil customer service and a representative told me that they did not make an oil that meets the Chrysler specification for the engine but made an oil that meets the Cummins specification that Chrysler accepts for the engine and recommend the Mobil Delvac ESP 5W-40 oil. I’m due for an oil Change and was looking for an oil I can buy in a 2.5 gallon jug.

Mobile Delvac doesn't meet spec for the 2020+ EcoDiesel. Is there a particular reason why you want the larger 2.5-gallon jugs?
