Alright so I'm new here so I'll start with a little back story. I purchased a 15 ecodiesel October 29th with 42k miles on it. On the drive home the check engine came on. I have a choice reader so I pulled the codes and P04db was in there 3 times. It appears somebody knew it was a problem and cleared the codes. I wasn't worried because I bought the extended warranty. The next available day I brought the truck back to the dealership and that's where my problem starts. They tell me it just needed a PCM update and gave it back to me light gone for a day or two. Comes back on and the truck goes straight back to the dealers. They say bad crank case pressure sensor they had it a couple days and then gave it back with the light gone for about another day. Back to them the third time and they say is the PCM and replaced the entire unit and gave it back and the light came back on 9 hours later after maybe driving 50 miles. So that beings us to now, my truck is at the dealership for the 4th time and has been since I think the 9th of December, I have a star case with Ram, and they have called me multiple times to update me which is great except every update has been "we don't know anything right now". The dealers called me last week and told me everything they have checked per Ram with no results and no updates since. So I guess my question is has anybody else had any issues like this and how long would you let it go before you brought up a lemon law case? I've read about the turbos getting cokes and oil in the intercooler and people getting this code when they attempt to modify the crank case breather with a catch tank for any oil but I haven't found anybody just have this problem by itself. I'm at a loss on this.

Thas interesting and I'll have to look into it but as far as I'm understanding it's covered up to 18 months from the date of purchas and still under factory warranty but I'll lol into it further regarding the used at status. Found quite a few places that offer a free case review consultation.

I did not look up the code as it reads like the dealer is both on it and confused.

You will be surprised at how intelligent GDE (Green Diesel Engineering) is on issues of programming and codes. Even though you do not have their ECM, they will probably be quite helpful with their learned opinions. Get their phone number off their section here on the forum and make the call. Nothing but that call and time to lose with much to possibly gain.

You can have the dealer pull up the service records on the truck to see if this was an issue before you bought it and if the dealer was aware of it when they sold you the truck. As for a Lemon Law suit, in Ohio you have to be the original owner to file a claim. Your state may be different though. First thing I would do is to very nicely as for a print out of all of the service records of the truck from day one. Good luck.

Alright finally got my first update on my truck after being there for over a month. They have checked the entire electrical system, compression checked the cylinders, and tested the vacuum system. They said they replaced the PCM, Mass air flow sensor, and vacuum pump. While test driving it from replacing the pump the truck shut off (a problem I have never had) and said the entire high pressure system failed. They are now replacing everything in the high pressure system including the injectors and said star thinks they have found the problem. Has anyone ever had the high pressure system fail? I literally just got the phone call and haven't had time to search yet but I thought I might ask. I guess we will see where it goes.

Just an update of anyone is curious. They had my truck for over 2 months and gave it back last wednesday. While in their possession it shut down on them while test driving and they had to replace almost the entire fuel system. After I got it back Wednesday I drove home and to work the next day. I am a paramedic and work 48 hour shifts so the truck didn't move until I got off Saturday. Saturday evening the check engine light comes on with the same P04DB bUT now has P200A and B. Intake manifold performance codes. No flashing check engine light or anything. I planned on bringing it back to the dealership Monday morning but I had to drive it Sunday and the truck shut down on me. $280 tow bill home and the dealership towed it on Monday morning. Has anybody had any issues this severe? I'm talking with some local friends getting attorney recommendations and trying to see if i have a case since it's used or if I just have to let them keep playing with it.

Sorry to read about your troubles.

Did you buy the truck used from a dealer or through a private party? What state / province are you in?

It seems like you should have some buyers protection for a serious failure like that with only adding 1300 miles to it.

Every now and then I get this code, but it has a message next to it saying "powertrain". I erase it and keep going. Haven't had any serious issues at all with my 2016 ED. Yet... 24000km

I just got the P04DB cel on my 14' Ram ED, I have 82K on my motor i purchased it a little more then a year ago with about 60K I have had no issue up until now. I had recently gutted my MAF, which was a bad idea by the way fuel mileage suffered. I hadn't got a chance to replace it and the cel came on. I cleared the code and replace the MAF I haven't really driven it since so i'll let you know if i see the cel again. When researching i saw a lot of posted for the PCV catch can. Don't know if there is any good information on those threads, If i find it i'll let you know.

Mine is doing the same thing. I swapped out the squished air tube and installed a 3" straight tube back when I first purchased the vehicle. I also performed a muffler delete which really didn't change the sound but really has improved performance. 3,000 miles later my wife and I took a trip to Arkansas to pick up a small camper and somewhere around Dallas the CEL came on. Stopped at an Autozone and got the P04DB code, Crankcase breather line disconnected. Since this is the breather tube for the PCV I checked the line, it's still connected, so I decided to wing it. Cleared the code and off we went. Sure enough, about hour later it came back.
Now that I am home I pulled the hose and checked for obstructions. Line is clear so the only thing I can think of is there is something wrong with the two sensors on either end of the hose. The one next to the Air intake for the turbo is supposed to sense vacuum on the line. Not sure what the other sensor does.
So anyone figure out what the heck is happening. I only have 37,000 miles on this vehicle. I've had really back luck with Chrysler products over the years so I tend to go with GM. I hope I haven't made a $25,000 mistake by purchasing a Dodge again!

I too have that code come up P04DB. Catch Can must be the culprit. I was told to shorten the hoses as much as possible. Did that about 2 weeks ago... but I still get the code... just less often now. Any insight to this would be helpful.
