Ram 2016 Ecodiesel Cracked Transmission Housing

Bought A EcoDiesel Ram 1500 SLT for work in august of last year. Hauling trailers sporadically throughout the year mainly a Kabota or John Deer Gator. Noticed a Oil leak on March 31st. Took it into the dealership today. Turns out to be a transmission leak. Dealership already told me it was not cover under warranty but would submit it to see if they could get it cleared through dodge first. Cant think of any moments when it could of happened, no damage showing for a impact. Any thoughts or suggestions on dealing with dodge?

Sure can see that crack above what looks to be a drain plug. Thought it drained through the pan but guess not. Your problem may be a first. Never saw that before.

So much dirt and debris under that truck it is hard believe. Also see much rust. Figure you must live in a northern place where the weather is horrible and tears the undercarriage apart. Man that looks rough.

Welcome to the forum - first post.

As for warranty, depends on mileage and whether it is a defect or damaged cause by some impact or something. Think they have a 100,000 mile power train warranty.
Haven't heard much of anything about ZF casings cracking like that except from accidents or off road hazards and even then there were very few.
23000 km on it Captainmal you are right that it is being drove in the north. Dirt and the mud is just part of the job, not everyone has the privilege of highways all the time.

No gobs from coal mines OldMiner just crude oil

Insurance is what the dealership is trying to go for, I think it is a casting defect.
No damage is showing at all I cannot think of any moments when i was driving it hard enough to damage it, Definitely needs a good clean up was waiting till dry weather to clean it up.
So your powertrain warranty is up? Hope they don't stick it to you with the truck being covered underneath in mud. If its your job I agree there is nothing you can do short of washing the underside all the time.
Must be a timing issue!
nope its gotta be sludge just gotta be:rolleyes:

I don't think it will be easy to get Ram to cover this. Too many possibilities of some sort of off road experience they will probably try to claim. But I hope it does work out, I have never heard of this happening here.

I’ve got a 2016 Laramie ecodiesel and was just told today I have a small crack - no leaking yet. I don’t do any heavy hauling - just bikes and kayaks and a motorcycle. I have 157,000 miles on mine. Bought new. Live in Idaho. not sure what I’m going to do now
Perhaps ZF quality isn't all it's cracked up to be! /S

Crack in the pan?
Given the 157,00 miles, has the transmission had prior service ? (Thinking about over TQ of the pan bolts).

The ZF8 is used by BMW, Ford, Chevy, Ram .... so repair parts/replacement shouldn't be an issue.
The transfer case
Thats normal they are actually casting marks not cracks.
The transfer case
Like Broken said, it's a casting mark. That's why I was asking.
