In places the pipe line is elevated for the critters.

Fireweed, it likes to grow where a fire has been, thus the name. Or is it the fire red leaves it turns too in the fall?

Lush and green.

That was some serious dirt.

Sure there were hideous bugs that no-one really can deal with well. I know. Yet, be thankful no bears came in to challenge you and there are no snakes to undermine your footing.

Don't need a thousand words with your fine pictures. So when do you try again?

I pack a 12 gauge with 3 inch Magnum slugs and bear spray. Just in case.

We didn't see much for critters at all.

It'll be next year before we try this again, but it just kills me we got within 120 miles of Deadhorse.

I saw on the news it was 70 F in Deadhorse yesterday.

Fireweed is a member of the Evening Primrose family (Onagraceae). It's the official flower of Yukon Territory.

Thanks for this really interesting travelogue and all the pictures.

One of the good things is living right there and being able to take your guns. For those of us in the "Lower 48", passing through Canada (not possible right now) makes taking guns quite difficult.

No way in HEQQ I would want to wander Canada and Alaska without some personal protection. As for the bear spray, have read that some bears are not even paused by the stuff. After using there is literally no time to get lethal and YOU are now near instantly in a lethal situation.

Forget that spray. Shotgun is your best with big handguns and rifles second when you are close enough to be using spray.
