what are the symptoms of a 3 way coolant valve that is going bad? are they the same as a thermostat going bad?
my oil temps where at 225F in stop in go traffic not towing anything and outside temp was 83F
once turning on ac temp dropped to 208F what is normal for me when driving
I know the temp is not high just higher than normal I was thinking about change the 3 way coolant valve and coolant flush
miles on the eco diesel is 45K with a GDE tune since 15K

I played that game with that three-way valve. Darn thing is expensive as it has electronics in it.

It does regulate coolant to heater, air conditioner, transmission etc. Obviously it worked as the temperature dropped when the sir conditioner turned on. Guessing it's is operating. Guessing there may have been a fan issue that may not have turned on quickly enough while stopped. Guessing your transmission was normally cool and that valve got it fluid. Guessing, guessing, guessing there really was no problem. Darn things run hot when it's hot and sometimes even when it's cold.

your symptoms are different , but in this thread you will see one possible way the unit can fail ,

post # 51 by Ben28881 : with 2 pictures , ==> truck warming up , no cell ,
then when warm , 3 way valve sending too much coolant to the transmission , and temperature is not coming
up as it should , so computer throws a cell ,
===> check engine light is ON ==> code P26AB

The three way valve doesn't affect your engine oil cooler. It sends heat to the heater coil and the trans warmer.

The reason your temp dropped was the cooling fan kicked on and pulled some heat from your coolant.

Check your coolant level. It has to stay above the seam in the recovery tank..

You answered your question here. When you turned the AC on, the cooling fan turns on at a low speed regardless of engine temp, also the AGS is forced open. There is an oil cooler on these engines, it's part of the filter assembly.
I've seen the engine coolant and oil temps run warmer than normal till I turned the AC or defroster on several times. I've even tested the theory by turning the AC/defrost back off and watch the temps creep back up.

Stop and go will do that. I keep my display on the temps all the time so I've seen all temps fluctuate in many scenarios

opened up my grill by cutting some of the the material out on Friday and Saturday drove again in the same conditions but this time the temp only got to 215F (OIL)
I guess the stock grill is more restrictive then I thought. maybe I will replace it with another one when I have some free time
highway speeds 80mph temp never went above 213F(OIL).
did not touch the AGS

Which model Ram do you have? Several models have better flowing grilles than others.

I swapped my restrictive Laramie grille inserts for Laramie Longhorn inserts.
