DISCUSSION:
All MY13-16 vehicles sold in the U.S. with the RA3 or RA4 radio can now receive software
updates “over-the-air”. Updates to software level 17.11.07 will occur in a phased roll-out.
The software is updated through the built-in cellular modem in the radio which is
connected to the Sprint® 3G network. Customers will see a notification on their radio
screen when new software is available for their radio (Fig. 1). The owner will have the
option to update the radio or schedule the update for later. There is not an option to
decline the update indefinitely. The update must be performed.

This really burns me, I contacted Uconnect a couple times to ask if/when 2016 Features like drag & drop would be added to the 2015 & Older Uconnects with an update. The response I kept receiving was that there are hardware differences and the 2015 & Older units didn't have enough processing power to support such features. I knew in the back of my mind this was total BS since i downloaded a 2016' firmware and dissected it & compared it to my 2015 firmware and saw they both referenced the same processor in a few different files. So I got impatient and found a deal on a 2016 RA4 last month and bought it... I mean the RA4 is still loaded with other features I wanted that my RA3 couldn't have, but this is still a kick in the nuts lol.

Don't feel too bad that your wife's audi has android auto and Apple carplay. My friend brought over his 2017 Honda Civic the other day and showed me the cool features in his cheap $20k econobox. The freaking thing had Apple Carplay and Android Auto from the factory. Meanwhile, my 60k truck has been promised those features since 2015...

there is hardware specific codes the update looks for
^^ what he said
The update verifies the hardware type and software version prior to installation. It either won't recognize the update or reject it for not being correct.
Sometimes software/firmware updates are packaged "all in one", the same file will update multiple models, there is loader information in the update file that instructs which parts of the update to load.

Mine updated a few days ago. Didn't lose any settings that I could see. It moved some of the buttons around, and the the icon of the truck on the map changed. Oh, and Nan lost her taskmistress voice and now sounds seductive when upbraiding me. I haven't tried my iPod Classic to see if it will play albums.

I still haven't seen this on my truck. Is there any way you can check the current Operating System? Honestly besides the radio and my phone controls I have not explored any deeper into the radio unit.

Mine was updated a couple of days ago. I'm having a few issues and can't figure it out, I'm not too tech savy, so......be easy on me, lol.

1. While in phone mode, when I go to contacts, they're sorted by first name instead of last name. It was sort by last name before the update. My phone's are sorted by last name.

2. My music is on a USB flash drive. After the update, the songs on the albums are sorted alphabetically instead of the order on the album. Kinda screws up Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall...lol Before the update, it played the order on the album.

3. After listening to an album, instead of advancing to the next album, it repeats the same album. And no, the Repeat is not engaged.

Can anyone help me please?
Thanks in advance.

My truck is a 2015 I've never updated my uconnect does this mean mine won't send me a prompt to update over the air ?

Mine is also a 2015 and it recently updated. What's different? Well there are a couple of things that are different. But nothing to get excited about.

Now there's an icon to touch to turn off the screen. Now you don't have to push a darned button located just below the screen to turn off the screen! But then again, the only time I've ever turned off the screen is when sleeping in the truck with the ACC on so that I could run my CPAP.

There's also an icon for 3G interwebs! Woohoo! Oh, wait. My phone gets better than that--and I can use it as a hot spot just as easily.

The only useful update that I can see is that the radio will now notify me when a favorite artist/song comes on somewhere on SXM. I mean, I remember other people's radios doing that for many years. And originally I was able to "favorite" songs/artists. I expected it to notify me when they came on, but it never did before the update. Now it does.

Nothing else has made itself obvious to me. But there has to be more to it. Right? Right?
