I'm getting a replacement engine and I'm wondering about it. I know a number of people on this forum have put a second engine in so I'd really like to hear from them.

Questions:
What kind of warranty did they give on the new engine?
Did you consider an additional full coverage MoPar warranty extension for 5/100K miles? If so, why or why not?
Did you keep the truck or decide to trade it?

What things surprised you about the new engine, good or bad?

Thanks for any feedback you may provide.

If Stellantis replaced the engine on warranty you will get the remainder or unused portion of your original warranty which was usually 100k miles. When I bought my second motor it was 24 months unlimited miles. Since they have changed it I believe 3 year 100k. I kept it. That motor lasted 423K miles then cracked a head.

So you are on your third motor now?

Yea first was replaced at 371k the 2nd at 423k.
Did you get 371K out of the 1st one and 423K out of the 2nd one for a total of 794,000? Same trans for both engines?

All your engines were turned from the start, right?

As for the warranty replacement, since I currently have 96,500 that doesn't leave much coverage for sure. I checked about another MoPar warranty after 100K and for a 5/60K they want $7200. Not sure that is worth it, but a new replacement is much more for sure if it's out of the pocket.

Still trying to decide what to do..

Yes 371k out of my first 423K out of my second. Transmission had a simple solenoid fail at 700k but its built into the board so parts and labor would have been ridiculous. Ended up buying a used with 70k miles for $1260 so we swapped that in. You need one out of a diesel and then software update to it for your gear etc.

Tuned my first one at 30k the second day one. Personally I would not pay $7200 for 60k warranty.

Thanks for the insight. Looks like if that's the case, I will only get the remaining 3200 miles before the 100K is up. Maybe I just get it tuned from the get go and hope for the best.
THANKS

ure you have dealer do your oil changes would get 3 years 100,000 miles they would not cover miy 2nd engine which I paid 15;000 to put in cause I changed my own oil. Still waiting since new bearings in July to have the place put it back together. Been down since 7 march 2021

My motor was replaced at 116,000 km. I'm now at 233,000 km's. I got 2 years, unlimited km's. Didn't get any additional warranty. The thing that surprised me the most, was to added turbo noise. I had the GDE tune, and was still in-tact after the new engine was installed. I was The EGR cooler was the new one already as well... which was nice....

If you go the dealer route (or any other oil change option) -- verify they are filling with 5w40. Some have said theirs was filled with incorrect oil and that oil changes might be responsible for engine failures

I had a new engine put in mine under warranty in August.

Funny you should ask about the warranty, because I do not actually have anything in writing. I asked the dealership I worked with several times over the phone to provide me with that information, which they kept forgetting. The day I picked up my truck, the service manager was out of town. My BS threshold was finally exceeded, I needed my truck back, so I took possession without ever getting a definitive answer. I got two oral replies of 2 yrs/unlimited mileage.

As for the engine, no surprises yet, but it has hardly been used. My camping season was shot when the engine blew in July, and that is my primary use for the truck. I have probably only put 1000 miles on it since it was repaired. Next year will be the test.

The Mopar extended warranty letter is still sitting on my desk at home. I don't intend to pick it up - if the engine fails again, I do not have room in my life for that kind of uncertainty in my vehicles.

1. New, 2nd engine (# 5158048AF, built after April, 2021) installed on 2015 (at 102 000 miles) with a 3 year / 100K warranty.
  • Coolant leak - FCA could not trace source, so offered a new engine at $5 500.
  • It ran from August, 2015 (new) until leak began in June, 2022.

2. I did not know a 5 year / 100K was available. Is it worth purchasing (what is the cost)?

3. With an offer of around $10 000 (with a new engine), I declined a trade-in towards a 2022 ecodiesel for around $70 000.

4. The new engine had acceleration hesitation on the first day (the old 1-second lag problem), but then disappeared and has not returned.

By the way, what is the latest engine that can / should be installed on the 2015?

Fsmith246, Thanks for starting this thread.

So far, the DS body can only take the most recent iteration of the Gen 2 engine. I'm sure there have been many little changes along the way. GDE says they are developing a kit to install the Gen 3 engine, which would be a great improvement. Stellantis would probably save money if they could adapt to use Gen 3s when they have to replace Gen 2s.

We could all have the peice of mind then too since the gen 3 engine doesnt have the clear design flaw that causes so many failures on the gen 2.

I guess a better question is -- Anyone needing a new engine change their own oil since the truck's purchase?
I changed my own oil, every time, along with a new fuel filter every time. I used Blackstone at every oil change and sent their report showing the milage interval between changes and condition of oil at each change. MoPar accepted it without question and is replacing the engine under warranty. No questions ask.

I've never had an engine replaced under warranty so maybe u'all can tell me what will be new and what will get "reused" from the original engine.

ie. with there be new belts and pulleys? New turbo? New water pump? glow plugs?

Anyone have any experience with a warranty replacement?

Thanks
