Any Eco-diesel success stories?

Are there any buyers of this truck that are truly happy with their purchase. I really want to buy an eco diesel as on paper it suits our families lifestyle and driving needs to a t. My concern with putting down that kind of money is that all I hear and read about are horror stories surrounding theses trucks? Seems like a part time job keeping up with all the issues surrounding this truck if you buy one. Any success stories out there?

First post - WELCOME!

Now the answer - Heh?

There are thousands of us very happy with our trucks. One I know of has over 200,000 miles on it and others have passed the 150,000 mile mark. some have had issues and a small percentage did have engine problems. Those are the ones you read about as that's the motivation to open a discussion. Most of those answering are interested in case they have future troubles.

I am one of the success stories. Probably have one of if not the earliest one ever produced for general sale and delivered. Normal DEF replacement issues for the early ones and that's about it. Nothing else of any significance the past almost two years now. Run the snot out of it and tow often . Replaced the tires at 26,000 miles and blew one of the new ones. Don't call that a problem with the engine or truck.

Don't let the forums fool you. As Captain mentioned there are thousands of success stories, most of which are not even on the forums. Last I read the Ecodiesel accounted for around 20% of new RAM's. That's a lot of Ecodiesels! The forums are usually made up of enthusiasts and those that have had problems and searching for answers. I'm part of the enthusiasts group and love my truck!

The success stories vastly outnumber the issues; most issues are minor, although some bad issues are really really bad (blown motor ..etc), so you will hear about many of those on here, however those are the exception, not the rule. Really bad issues account for a very small fraction of the total EcoDiesel population....any is "too many", and it really sucks if you have one, but shit happens.

112,000 on mine currently. Only issue was remote start solved by a software update no charge. Here is a link for you:

EDIT The link has 14 EDs with over 100,000 miles including my own and one over 200,000 with pics. One had a camshaft for lack of proper terms I will say retainer that failed at 148,000 or probably more importantly 5,000 hours. It was repaired and is back on the road. Three had serpentine tensioner failures all with extremely high idle hours per their commercial use. For those not familiar this is an external part that is a relatively quick inexpensive part to replace. The truck that has over 200,000 miles tows daily but does not sit and idle for hours a day. It had 3719 hours at 200k.

Cap is right, most owners only post their issues but not their successes. Guess it's human nature.
I for one am thrilled with the fuel mileage, comfort and style.
Of course Ram could have done a few things better.

Absolutely no regrets and I broke one of my worst habits I have ever had and that is getting rid of any vehicle if it ends up having bodywork. Had the drivers side rear door skin repaired after my daughter backed into the truck and still absolutely love the vehicle. 24500 miles and running strong, and efficient

:cool:I'm also a happy ED owner with no issues or problems in the last 8 months I have owned my truck (no problems other than a loose center console latch). As mentioned the success stories vastly out number the problem or issues. Also mentioned above its human nature to air negative thoughts or concerns and not mention positives as frequently. It's unfortunate there's not a section in this forum on positive stories or successes although a forum is geneally where people air problems and seek assistance. I drive both a Ford EcoBoost 3.5 liter for work and would not hesitate to buy another Ram EcoDiesel as it by far the better truck. The Ram has by far superior fuel economy, better ride, more comfortable seating, and an overall better value for your money. Try doing a search for success stories in the top right hand corner of this forum and you will come up with a few additional threads with positive comments. There is many more successes it's just unfortunately like searching for a needle in a haystack.

I have over 22K miles and love it and absolutely no issues, in fact I have ordered my second one which should be in this month. I have 2 people wanting to buy my fist one which will be on the lot once I pick my new one up.

If you read and believe all of the crap threads on this site too bad for you as you will be missing out on a good truck. Like all brands there are pieces of crap, I know I have had FORD, CHEV, NISSAN, and DODGE DAKOTA'S that were nothing but crap. So if you listen to the 1%ers you will never buy any vehicle. Yes there are problems with that 1%, but there is 99% that have no issues or not enough to worry about. I feel sorry for the guys in the 1% as I have been there so many times. I have bought 10 new vehicles in my time, 3 were keeps, 1974 MGB, still have, a 2008 ford escape that I gave to my son who is still enjoying the free ride, and my current 2014. I'm only trading up as I'm getting ready for retirement and want newer things while I can still afford them, and getting a great deal didn't hurt.

Good luck

I enjoy my truck more than I should my wife loves the truck too.

Ride no other truck is its equal.

Fuel no other truck is its equal.

Style depends on preferred personal opinion.

Cabin comfort so far yet to find its equal. Could be biased opinion

Towing. Follow this link and smile. http://www.ram1500diesel.com/forum/ram-1500-diesel-towing-hauling/3609-show-your-rig-towing.html

Hope some of this helps. FYI I owned two Fords, one Nissan, one Toyota truck(s). I am not dodge/ram fan boy. But love my Ram.

I love my truck. GDE tuned since the first tank. I just keep an eye on everything. I have an anal diesel mechanic and he made me anal about maintenance. I do draw the line because he is also old school and wants me to change the oil more often than needed. More like my old 7.3 IDI oil change schedule.

I only have about 5K miles on mine and have been very pleased. It's my first full-size truck since an '04 GMC Sierra Denali that had some electrical problems. I sold that before the warranty expired. Since than I had a repair-of-the-month well-used Dakota I bought from a buddy and a '12 Honda Ridgeline that was a bit too small and had a few weird problems.

I have 30k miles on mine, I love it. Did a GDE tune, and have had zero drivetrain problems, and only minor cosmetic things the dealer fixed.

I would imagine there are tens of thousands of people who don't waste time on internet message boards who are very happy. People with problems looking for solutions use google and find this site.

20,000 miles on my truck other then some stupid things like the puddle lamps on the mirrors not working (fixed by dealer replaced both sides) she has been great. Drove her to Florida X2 (just got back last week) and down to New Orleans in July and we made 27/28 mpg running 77-80 mph! Maintenance is a bit pricy at $200 for an oil change, filter and air filter last month. I would recommend this truck to anyone looking for a well built hard working truck. BTW not that it should matter I do work for FCA but I would buy one even if I didn't work for them.
