In the middle of a dodge ram 1500 5.7 hemi replacement, 6K for the motor and 2100 for the labor, and they added in another 3500 in add on's for thermostat, water pump, spark plugs, coolant and the like, so I'm looking at about 12k all in and a week for the work
You can get a complete 5.7 Hemi crate engine with EVERYTHING included for $6135 all in. If you paid $6K for the engine plus another $3500 for the extras, then they robbed you in broad daylight.

We just got a quote from a local Dodge dealer of $47,900 to replace the ecodiesel in our 2015 Long Horn 4x4. They have lost their mind.
That sounds like it must be a gold-plated motor--or they're charging you $30,000 for labor! Did you ask them to break it down for you?

And you ran right out and joined this forum ....
I seriously doubt that price is for an engine replacement only.
Post the estimate.

Welcome to the forum - first post.

So many owners of the old Gen 2 motors need replacement that parts have become a major scam by Stellantis and their supplier. Owners are stuck between paying the huge pricing today or junking/ parting out the vehicles. It's a real shame yet a reality.

Sacramento Ca
. Dealer said i need an engine but honestly not sure. Truck died on freeway. It had done it before and it was the fuel pump
2 things I would do next:

1) Check the oil filter for metal shavings
2) Pull all the codes

If you find metal shavings, then there is no point in going any further because the engine will need to come out. If not, then there are any number of things that could be wrong. When you've done these 2 things, send me a DM and we'll go from there.

Thank you. Dealer stated that they found metal shavings. The pump that was under recall failed after recal was completed. They are replacing the fuel components and then i will need to figure out what to do to replace engine. They want 14k for engine plus 5 k for labor and other stuff

interesting- so even though the engine is blown, they are replacing the fuel system?

Yes. Dealer asviced to get fuel system fixed before i pull truck out of dealer
Did you take it to Elk Grove Dodge? They've sold thousands of EcoDiesels, so probably far more experienced than the other dealers.

It doesn't seem likely that the HPFP and engine failed separately at the same time. If the HPFP failed and took out the engine (which I think is very rare), they should cover the whole thing under warranty. You haven't said what year and mileage for your truck.
