Mirror swap - power fold to tow

I've been through countless threads on what works and doesn't work with swapping Ram mirrors. Through all of that I dont have an answer on my specific question. Has anyone swapped from stock power fold mirrors to stock tow mirrors? If so, do all features of the tow mirrors work? What about the mirror adjustment orientation? Does adjusting work correctly in both the standard and tow positions?

There's so much info about trying to add power folds, but I want to go the other way. And, yes, I've seen the 1A power fold tow mirrors. I may look at those as well. My truck is a 2016 Big Horn FWIW.

I have replaced my stock mirrors with the 1A towing mirrors. The adjustment works, but when you flip up the mirrors, you have to adjust your thinking by 90 degrees.

The only thing that I miss about my regular mirrors is the auto-dimming feature. I never even knew that I liked that. But now that I don't have it, I miss it.

Also, my new ones don't have power fold. I didn't even know that was available until like a week ago. I would have gotten those instead. But I don't use that very often, so it's not that big of a deal.

If at all possible with my next truck, I will have the correct mirrors from the factory.

A whole lot of miss-information going on here.

1, if you have the factory non towing mirrors with the power fold feature all you need to do is buy the power fold tow mirrors for the 2500 or 3500 Ram. You will still need to flip the mirrors up though. The 2018 trucks are getting mirrors like Ford and GM use :( . I have towed with a the GM mirrors and they are no where near as good as the Ram tow mirrors.

2, Only the cheap after market mirrors have the orientation issues not the factory tow mirrors. The OEM mirrors know when the mirror is flipped up and the buttons work just like they do folded down.

3, As for the "hoping the quality is good" I sent the ones I ordered for my 2004 Ram right back to 1AAuto do to the poor quality. The mirror section was not glass but plastic and distorted anytime you adjusted them. Now if I quickly hit the mirror button in the opposite direction they would flatten back out.

Bottom line, you get exactly what you pay for. Want a quality mirror then stay away from the cheep Chinese or Korean junk! Will say 1AAuto gave me a full refund including shipping to return the mirrors! They get a A+ for customer service, just wish they offered a "quality" North American mirror option.

Just wanted to reach out and to say thank you for your initial order. We have worked with the manufacturer over the past year to improve the quality of our Ram tow mirrors. We use a really good manufacture for our tow mirrors, that puts a lot of R&D into them. We're slowly re-releasing and rolling out the power fold tow mirrors for these trucks. I'm wondering if you just got a bad set somehow, we never hear of any glass issues with them. We strive to iron-out any wrinkles with newer product releases to make an even better product if there's ever an issue.

While I agree with most of what Perrysburg Dodgeboy said, I think the 1A mirrors for our generation Ram are probably better quality. Mine seem pretty good so far and I think you'd have a hard time telling them apart from factory ones.

If you want to go OEM, you'll want 2014-2016 2500/3500 power fold tow mirrors. They need to have the temp sensor built-in to the drivers side mirror. They will be spendy.

Edit: The driver's side is part number 68285865AB (Goes for about $380). The passenger side is part number 68142670AF (Goes for about $230). I'm guessing the driver's side is more because of the temp sensor. Price isn't as bad as I thought it might be.

Unless they changed vendors and from what I have see on their site it does not look like it, I stand by my comments. The issue I had was not with the plastic portion of the mirror as much as it was the fact the "mirror glass" was not glass but plastic!!!! Take your thumb and push on the upper section of the mirror and see if it flexes. If it does it is plastic and not glass.

The other issue was the area it mounted to the truck. The black plastic at the pointed area was about 1/4" away from the door skin. Not that much of an issue as I could have heated it with a heat gun and bent the ABS plastic down so it was flat with the door.

The price I paid was almost the same as they show for the new trucks and in fact was their "upgrade" tow mirror with turn signal. https://www.1aauto.com/dodge-mirror-pair/i/1amrp00913?f=575465&y=2004

As was noted above you need the mirrors off a 2014 or up with the fold out option. You should be able to find them in a junk yard.
