P0118 Engine Coolant Circuit High Input

Code indicates that the Engine Coolant Temperature electrical circuit input signal had high voltage for a predetermined period of time.

Truck has had no coolant leaks, and has had no abnormal Temperature readings.
After truck is running for about 3 minutes this code starts saying to service the electronic throttle control and then cranks my engine fan on high, which then leads to my temperature gauge dropping to 0.

I think the electronic throttle control is a way of the truck protecting itself.

Thinking I just need to replace this sensor.

I have no problems ordering one it seems like, I just dont know where it is on the vehicle. And have not found a good diagram to find it before I start poking around in there.

If anyone has a good diagram or can easily explain where it is to replace it I would appreciate it.

Anyone come up with a solution. I just brought my 2014 Eco with 105,000 miles to the dealer for an oil change and new fuel filter on Tuesday. Besides costing me over $300 for this basic service, I drove the truck home (5 miles) and parked it in my driveway, and didn't drive it till this morning. Go to drive the kids to school and I get 1 mile from my house with a CEL and service throttle light. Truck became extremely loud and I couldn't dive over 30mph. Dropped the kids and barely made it back to dealer. They pulled these two codes P0118-00 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit High & U0401 Implausible Data Received From ECM/PCM "A".

The vehicle is fully stock and has received all updates and recall services.

Any idea how an oil change or a new fuel filter can trigger an event like this? Or is it just a coincidence I just had this maintenance performed.

I will update once I have more information. Keeping my fingers crossed this gets covered under the Extended Recall Warranty.

Best Regards-

From another thread on this forum;
Well have an appointment at my dealer Monday morning.
Been getting the service electronic throttle message and the water temperature indication (digital) jumps all over the place then it goes to blank,
the little analog gauge then goes to full left.
Called for the appointment Friday and asked if they had a temperature sensor in stock,
damned service advisor wouldn't even check said they had to diagnosis the truck first.
Told him it had a P0118 code for the sensor, but he knows more then me.
I was going to just buy a sensor and a couple more gallons of anti-freeze,
but its cold out and with the AEM warranty covering the sensor and diagnostics why bother.
We will see Monday how irritated I become with them and what they try and charge me.

And;
Well home from my visit to my dealer for the P0118 code and service electronic throttle message.
Took them a bit over an hour to come tell me yes it's the temperature sensor and no we don't have one in stock.
So in a couple of days they should be calling and I can take my truck back in and they can change the sensor.
I did have to tell the "service" manager told you it was the sensor Friday, I know not nice of me, but I did ask if they had one in stock.

Thread mentioned,
Tonight...first real issue

On my truck I only had one code the P0118 (temp sensor), the reason for the truck being loud is that on mine at least when it lost the temperture information,
the fan powered up to it's highest speed.
If I just turned mine off, waited a few seconds and restarted it would run fine.
Also as soon as I turned the key back to run the temperature gauge and digital temperature reading would return and begin reading.

I'm still waiting to hear back from my dealer that the sensor has come in.

Good Luck with your truck
