You are so right John. Makes the gate a pleasure to open with cluck as it drops.

 

My install was a breeze as well. Good instructions.

 

I had a dealer mechanic install mine, cost me a bunch in beer.
It a good thing I have one, for some reason people like to try to open the tailgate before opening the cap first.

 

I had one on my Raptor, it was nice

I should order one for this truck

 

Highly recommend inexpensive and really handy.

 

I'm really looking forward to adding one of these, it is a feature I didn't think was nessecary until I started truck shopping again and started to try it on the other brands.

One question, have there been any reports of issues with durability or damage to the mounting points where the strut bolts on? (Damage to tailgate?)

In various forums there have been a couple of the gas struts that have failed over the years. Biggest complaint is actually installing the nutsert into the tailgate, most likely by people that shouldn't be allowed to touch tools or work on anything. Even a few complaints of the ball joints snapping/pulling out, most likely from over tightening, there again bad install.
Make sure you put the plastic clip on in the right place on the tailgate support cable, it keeps the cable from getting pinched by the tailgate.

You might need to be inventive to get the nutsert to catch. Mine just kept spinning freely. The best solution was using some double sided tape to stop it from spinning and getting it to bite and tighten.

 

This is a great addition to the truck. Still not sure why they just would not add it at the factory.
I have shown 4 of my buddies this and they all have ordered them 3 Rams and a GMC.

Time will tell how good the shock is but for the price if I had to replace it after 3-4 years no big deal to me.

 

I bought mine within 10 mins of ordering my truck to "celebrate" Haha! It's one of my favorite mods on my 2014!

DEEZEE also has great customer service. I have this kit on my truck and for whateever reason one of the clasping clips broke. The shock wouldn't stay on anymore.

I sent them an email asking if I could buy a few clips and they said no.........but we'll send you some. No issues at all, just had to have the bill of sale and they sent me a couple in case it happened again.

Pretty sweet

 

I'll second that great customer service. Sent an email and got one back in a few hours with a message saying they will send me a new part.

 

They don't come from the factory with this feature because it might cost them a few more bucks per truck-------! That's what the aftermarket is for --- LOL.

I installed this little device and it really helps. Glad to have it. Keeping the nutsert from spinning until it catches and expands was the only installation quirk but I figured it out and the installation was a breeze.

 

i liked mine for about two days. then the ball stud attached to the tailgate sheared off at the junction of the nutsert/threads. anyone know if this is a common problem?

DeeZee is a good product, if Ram & Ford goes the route of GM these guys may not have a future product line.

 

This is a mod I definitely want to do.
