this morning I noticed my horn doesn't work. then noticed none of the lights are working on the steering wheel controls. the cruise still worked but none of the radio or information scroll buttons would work.

Could be a simple fuse. Haven't looked yet. Anyone have this happen?

Don't let the tool scare you. I'll bet most dealer mechanics skip that part and mark it somehow to save the step. The tool did not appear to be the Chrysler Tool. It appeared the tool he was using was the AlphaOBD or Appcar DiagFCA. Both are available for $49. (Needs a good OBDII Device also).

Hello folks, just joined this forum. As far as the steering wheel controls I have not had that issue. (yet). I have a 2017 Ram 1500 Laramie Eco Diesel. But I have had a couple strange electrical things happen which on one occasion the radio would not turn off after shutting off the engine and locking the doors. What I have discovered is when some weird thing(s) happen is to remove the positive battery cable for 5 or 10 minutes and that seemed to work. I have not had the radio issue since. Strange and bizarre !!!

Bigt88 , before you start taking things apart ,
the first thing to check is the connector Under the dash , driver side , right above your left foot
the symptoms are loss of lights on dash and bizarre displays , since you start to lose the radio , yours may just begin to come apart .
those who have found it loose , have zip-tied it to make sure it not come apart again , long feet touch that connector they say ,
it looks like this :

DITTO, that connector has been the root cause for a lot of electrical gremlins in these trucks. KAZ< I am gonna look under my dash in MY 19 and see if RAM/FCA has done anything to improve that plug area/connection. Hell, I am only 5'8" and have inadvertently kicked that connector till I learned it was there.

KAZ, on MY 19 Hemi, there R (3), say again (3) big connectors there above where your left foot is. (2) big boxes that clusters plug in front to rear, and a third one to the left. Sure hope whenever they redo the ED they R not there, but these trucks except for the motors and specific items ref gas vs diesel are all the same. Not gonna post PIC since this is an ED Forum.

thanks. my radio hasn't went out, just the radio controls on the steering wheel along with the rest of the buttons except the cruise.

I pulled the fuse for the horn since it doesn't work either. It had some burns on the legs but looked to be still in tact. didn't swap it for a new one yet

OP before you do anything see if the truck doesn't reset itself first. Mine stopped working and after three restarts everything started working fine. Dealer replaced the button modules anyway but said they tested good clock spring tested good also.

its been out since this past Saturday. Hasn't flickered or showed any signs of trying to work itself out. I will disconnect the battery for 15 minutes and see if that helps. Will also look at the fuses again before I go any further. The wire harness/plug that's around my left foot looks fine. Research shows the exact symptoms from others who had to replace the clock spring.

They list for around $280 new on the internet. I haven't called the dealer yet. I have a buddy that rebuilds wrecked GM trucks. He changes them on every vehicle he touches but never did a Ram. If the dealer wants to much I may let him give it a go.

Truck is under 3 years but has 51,000 miles. Should I try FCA for assistance or just eat this one?

Here's where I'm at. Yesterday I found fuse F-49 was blown. Put a new 10 amp fuse in and all was fine until I changed the radio station from the control on the steering wheel. Horn worked, EVIC scroll worked, and the volume worked.
I swapped the fuse again. All the same but this time but I changed the radio station by touching the arrow on the 8.4" screen. Yup that blew the fuse again by touching the screen. Even after the fuse blows, the 8.4" screen works like normal. Just loose steering wheel controls except for cruise. The cruise works fine.

Bigt88.... There was a recall for the clockspring wiring harness, it was basically a tie rap of the wiring harness that goes down through the steering column being tie wrapped to the side so the steering shaft didn’t rub the harness, the steering shaft was wearing the clock spring harness at the bottom of steering column causing issues as your describing .

I’d try replacing the fuse again, then unplug the wiring harness/clock spring harness at the bottom of steering column, then change radio stations again and see if it blows fuse again? If it doesn’t look for chafed/ bare spot on the clock spring harness. Use an extremely bright light looking for bare wires, very hard to see slight wear spot in wiring, usually just the size of pin hole .. Good Luck!!!

Will FCA still cover the repair under that recall?? If so, I'd be getting my $250 back from the dealer who appears to have misdiagnosed the problem.
