I have a 2016 Ecodiesel, which pump would be in the 2016 ? with my luck it's the CP4 ( should be a class action suit ) I pray it's a CP3. I intentionally add lubricity with EDT every fill up to protect the fuel system from dry fuel, low lubricity fuel. CP3 probably rated good at the least, CP4 needs a class action suit. The first Ecodiesel I had was a 2014 reliable truck 190,000 kms crashed RIP. Maybe Ram should have a CP4 recall !!! my 2014 had a big gulp of water before I bought it and the bill to the former owner was almost $17,000 dollars CDN. Can you put a rebuild kit into a CP3 or CP4 every so many miles/kms ? Is the HPFP lubricated via engine oil or Diesel fuel ? If engine oil stiction eliminator might be a real good idea so the pumping elements don't get sticky with carbon deposits and gummy deposits ?

the EcoDiesel has only been built with the CP4.2 HPFP. The only way for one to have a CP3 would be a custom build. I don't think any of the HPFP are engine oil lubed, the just use diesel fuel. There is a bunch of owners that use an additive for extra lubrication, I myself use OptiLube XPD.
There was one Canadian that I think had over 100,000 kms on the fuel filter and traded the truck in on another EcoDiesel.

Hi: Crash68... Going by the book it says to change the fuel filter every 60,000 kms. I had mine dealer done due to the fact I was getting a free oil change at that point. Cost around $130. CDN. At the moment my worry is the fuel turning to jelly from Co- Vivid non use. I did use a dose of Extreme Diesel and took a highway trip to run it in. Now if the DEF don't freeze I'll be OK!!!

2014 to current all use a cp4.2 high pressure pump. The pumps work well most of the time but they are sensitive to water or contaminants. There is no reason to rebuild them or replace them as maintenance just keep clean water free fuel and they work well. Small air pockets or any free water can make the rollers spin and then its over from there. Also all cp4 and cp4.2 pumps are fuel lubricated not oil.

IMHO, you should drain the fuel filter into a clean glass jar at every oil change and inspect for water. I keep a rear floor storage bin for the little funnel and a bottle of Hot Shot's EDT. Have a friend with a 3500 CTD who was delivering a boat from Maine to Florida, got a bad batch of diesel in North Carolina, bang. Cost him a fortune.

Historically there have been only a few Ecodiesel owners that had problems with their CP4. The horror stories come from the GM Duramax, which had no lift pump and the Ford Powerstroke. GM dumped the CP4 Bosch for a Denso couple years back. Ford soldiered on and has some issues. In 2019, Cummins went to the CP4 but for 2021 they changed back to the CP3.

The Ram with Cummins and CP4 has had a few pump issues. Probably more than the percentage of Ecodiesel owners. I had an Ecodiesel for years with no issues. Now I have a Cummins with the same CP4. So far - "knock on wood", no issues.

I say stop living n fear of the CP4 in your Ecodiesel. Many have gone hundreds of thousands of miles with no issues. Same for the big truck with only a "chosen few" having the trouble.

BioDiesel is a big deal for Lubricity, for semi-trailer trucks I noticed it is recommended by owner operator types to buy a liter/quart of BioDiesel and dump it into the fuel tank at fill up time. BioDiesel has 85% higher lubricity than diesel. There is 1 gas station in a city of over 3 million people that actually sells the stuff I think I'm gonna take a field trip over there and buy a couple gallons.

I came across this today on YouTube CP4 failure, It looks like the key to longevity is lubricity a good case for EDT. HotShot secret. Any thoughts on EDT or do I need the HotShot secret lubricity additive as well ? These HPFP pumps produce tremendous pressure, 35,000 PSI is a lot of pressure. All this effort to produce 35,000 psi will basically really load up the cam lobe high point, a real good lubricity additive could really protect the cam and follower from wear, any idea's ?
