On my ram 1500 2022 I have the high pressure fuel pump recall. I have been waiting for four months for the dealer to get one. Ram owners website says they’re in stock. Anyone else having this issue? Is this the norm?

What you're experiencing is fairly normal. Dealerships are very limited on parts. Make sure your name is on the list at the dealer and ask for bi-monthly updates just to keep yourself relevant with service advisor. In my opinion, the recall is not a critical issue, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I just had mine replaced and here is what came about for me. Called and placed on list mid-November 2023. So, after 3 months I thought, I would call to find out what was going on. They said not sent out yet to dealership. Ok, then 2 days later I get a call your pump is in. I never ask why so fast. Then I set a date of March 4th and had it done. So far everything is good too. Over 400 miles on it since I just had it put on Monday.
Also, if your dealership tells you that they need the truck for half a day they are wrong. Mopar gives the tech 2 hours to perform and mine had taken 1 hr. 40 to 45 minutes. I talked about it in another thread here.

Better call your dealership also. And when I ever buy any diesel truck, I always ask about their diesel techs too and how many they have employed.

That was an interesting experience.

On a funnier note... see if you can meet the diesel tech and test them with a question like this: "I tried doing a tune up on my truck as it sounds like a bag of angry hammers... but I can't find the spark plugs! Can you help me locate the spark plugs?" Then when they tell you it doesn't have spark plugs, tell them "I guess I got jipped out of spark plugs! Damn penny pinchers at Stellantics!".... LOL :ROFLMAO:

I don't think that (them not changing out the HPFP) happens very often.
That would result in a massive lawsuit including Stellantas suing dealership for fraud.
Crosshairs, you seem like a pretty decent guy, wished you worked at my dealership!
You don't work in northern CA/NV do you?
I dont think I could be any further away without getting wet .... .Im all the way over on the east coast

I do appreciate the compliment though...

I've heard that the mechanics or company doesn't have to give you the parts if repair was done under warranty. I don't know why they'd want to give up a potential sale. OTOH, if you pay for repairs, some states require them to offer you the parts so you can see if they were really broken or worn out. Good idea to mark it though so you can see that it was replaced.
Current and previous model year warranty parts will be held to make sure the OEM does not want it back for QC, some others will automatically go back as cores. We get a scrap notice weekly letting us know which parts we can scrap, along with a return list telling us which parts they want back. if you don't send them back, they don't pay the claim.
On a customer pay job, we will always give them parts if asked, but if there is a core charge, the customer will have to pay it.
You would be surprised at some of the ridiculous core charges I've seen . ..A $250 alternator may have a $500 core charge due to a shortage of rebuildable cores..they really want that core back so they make it hurt if they dont get it.

The HPFP for this recall however is an immediate scrap item, so there's no reason that I'm aware of that would keep the dealer from giving it to a customer if they asked

Can someone explain why a manufacturer going through the expense of replacing a defective part under warranty; would want to let those defective parts get back out in circulation and cause further reputational damage and continued customer dissatisfaction when they incurred considerable expense to have the defective part eradicated???
Just asking!

Ford, GM /Chevy, Ram and BMW all use the Bosch pump.
this is a massive issue. We have to appreciate the recall but what is hard to understand this has been in the works for a year. Why are the parts so hard to obtain?

did Bosch let the Chinese make it??
Dealerships are struggling finding and keeping help, like many industries.

What happened to the USA pride? Work hard to better ourselves??

very sad.

Companies are not willing to pay what people are worth, and an incredibly stagnant minimum wage prevents better paying jobs from paying even better. It's been 7.25 for 20 years now (which nowhere near has kept up with normal inflation, nevermind recent accelerated inflation).

The service check-in gent at my dealership said he gets paid minimum wage and the only way his family gets by is to get perfect scores on their surveys because it gives him a $50 bonus each time.

Why work hard for companies that care more about shareholders than their employees? That don't respect you, your time, your skillset.

Like others have said, most of the dealerships only have one diesel tech (and from reading most of these threads, less knowledgeable ones) because they're far better off financially out on their own or at another actual diesel shop.

Working hard hasn't gone away, it's just moved away from working hard for big companies and you find it far more with people working for themselves or in smaller businesses because the big companies don't take care of their kind any more. Hard to put your soul into places that don't respect you as an employee. They leave if they can, and if they can't they lose hope and just punch the clock.

But of a rant, but you see it all over now. And it doesn't really matter what industry but most of the blue collar ones are the worst. Healthcare too as more massive organizations are buying up hospitals and clinics with a focus only on the bottom dollar.

I just got a HPFP recall notice 2 days ago and just called my local Ram dealer today and he says yes they have the part in stock, and bring it in tomorrow. I thought that was super fast. Now when I got the truck it had a full delete which I think is great !!!😊 I assume it has a tune to it too but I have no idea how to tell. Do I have to be worried about them messing anything up?

#22 ·
Yes, the service advisors love to plug into the OBD port and see if your truck has all the current flashes.

There seemed to be a surge of reports online of pumps getting installed the last month or so, maybe those spare units all got gobbled up already but glad I got mine done. Called dealer once in February and couldn't get through to a tech, then again in March and they said they had a pump in stock so scheduled repair. Truck sat a week though because they said they had a hard time finding a pump so maybe the one they had got installed before I got there?, IDK but the experience I've had with FCA dealers vs. Toyota is night and day difference is all I can say...

I think most of the Gladiators have the recalls finished, so that will free up a lot of pumps.

Here's my experience so far with this recall (In Houston with 2015 Ecodiesel w/ 63k miles)

Yesterday I called one dealership and they said we do not have the parts but are expecting alot to come at one time in the near future. She suggested the best thing to do was to go ahead and bring it in and getting the truck scanned in and being in person will help expedite my process.

Called another dealer and no matter how many times I tried or which department I called I got an automated attendant and couldn't get through. This was the same dealer that I had an issue on a previous recall with so I moved on rather easily after trying each department once to no avail.

Called a third dealer that is apparently one company that handles all the major dealerships. They asked how soon could I bring it in... I said by noon. Brought truck in at 1130, had a hiccup finding the RAM service section and not the Chevy or Ford service lane (Its unmarked under the Mopar logo lane).
The one kid (nice kid) who apparently does all the customer interactions says it looks like it's just a software update recall. I say I was under the impression it was a fuel pump and he says oh you may be right well just a warning parts are hard to find etc so it may take a bit. Drop the truck off and get a call at 0745 the next morning (today) by the same kid saying truck is ready for pickup. I state my surprise and he says ya the part came in late last night and their mechanic comes in early at 5am to get started and he got it done.

Haven't picked it up yet

I've got an appointment for mine next Friday morning, so we'll see how it shakes out. The service advisor seemed knowledgeable enough and said it should take 3-4 hrs on a cold engine, should be done the same day.

I've also scheduled an alignment check during the same visit, doesn't hurt to check it. And lastly I asked about the slight hesitation/delay intermittently when going from the brake to the accelerator, if there was a software update available for it and was told they would check the version and update if needed.

So, hopefully all 3 things get done correctly in one day.

I have a throttle delay during the warm weather months. There was a forum member who posted about the software update, but I can't seem to find it now. It was posted about a year ago if I remember correctly. I wish I could find it because I would also like to have that update.

Well I will be getting my new HPFP on Monday. I guess it will get broken in because I leave friday for a 1250 mile trip... (not towing)

Let us know how it goes!

I had my dealer order the HPFP for our 2015 and 2020 truck. The appointment is scheduled for the end of July (assuming the parts arrive by then).

Just dropped off mine at Janesville CDJR for the recall work, I also asked about having TSB# 18-031-23 done.

Fingers crossed all goes well. They provided a new Wagoneer as a loaner.

Our team is happy to hear that your dealer was able to provide you with a loaner. Please keep us updated on your vehicle's performance post-service. We're also keeping our fingers crossed for a swift resolution.

I purchased my 2022 Ram 1500 Limited EcoDiesel used last May aware of the open recall. I had the HPFP replaced under the recall 48 days ago on May 22, 2024. Since then I've driven the truck less than 650 miles.

Yesterday afternoon the truck suddenly died just as I was stopping at an intersection to make a right turn. The truck initially would not start but eventually did after two to three minutes of trying. The check engine light came on so I drove to the nearest auto parts store and had them check the code. I do not remember the code number but the reader said it was the high pressure fuel module.

I immediately called the dealership that did the recall replacement. The service manager said normally they would have me bring it in right then. However, since their diesel technician was working on Saturday they suggested I bring it in first thing Monday. I was able to get it home with no further incidents, I even made two quick stops in route.

This morning, Sunday, I decided to see how it was doing. Now it will not start at all. All indications are that the high pressure fuel pump that was replaced only 48 days ago has already failed.

The truck only has 17,269 miles on it, 644 miles since the HPFP recall replacement.

Well mine blew about 45 days ago. They replaced pump and put an injector kit in. I was on my way to pick it up and got called. They said the new injectors had issues and had to replace two so it did not get off the lot. Picked it up a few days later. A couple hundred miles later I hear a tinging on the freeway and mile mileage goes way down. Got it to the dealer and it was running way rough. They checked and said it was an injector seal issue. Replaced the seal and I was off again. A couple hundred more miles and the ting is back, mileage down again and rough again. It’s in the shop now. I drive from California to my son’s school twice a year. 800 miles to New Mexico. Honestly not feeling to good about it now. If it dies on that drive with the summer heat that has safety concerns. Not sure what I will do. Only have 28k on it and not sure it will be safe….

Was that the factory pump or the recalled pump?

The dealer is supposed to clean/replace the fuel lines, drop and clean the tank, etc.

I drive from California to my son’s school twice a year. 800 miles to New Mexico.
Which school?
