OBDLink MX+ works great but there may be cheaper ones. I bought a Lenovo 8 inch Android tablet dedicated for AlfaOBD as all of my personal devices are Apple.
The OBD link and tablet have easily earned their purchase price back for me. I have programmed for LED lights and enabled remote start along with a few other things.

Swapping ECM's is easy peasy when you need to take care of your "off road needs" ;)
In response to @1shadowsabre above - couldn't agree more! A friend was asking me just the other day if it was worth having the MX+ and Android tablet - I think the look on my face gave him the answer. On my '14 I made all kind of adjustments to the air suspension including calibrating all new air bags on the four corners, changed the height and fixed the "Ram lean" on the front left corner, programmed the VIN and injector codes for a GDE-tuned ECM, diagnosed DTC's and cleared them, eliminated the fog light drop on high beams, etc. It's a long list.

And now on my '21 I just finished adding passive entry to my Bighorn that didn't have the option from the factory and I'm about to swap out the 8.4 inch screen to the 12 inch factory display - and AlphaOBD is really the only program that works for that project (some have tried JScan but it's iffy.) I'll be doing the fog light change to keep them on with high beams and maybe DRL too - and I'm even entertaining adding the 360 degree surround camera option if I'm brave enough, again using AlphaOBD.

An incredibly versatile tool for incredibly little money.

I do all that with my VeePeak BLE for 1/3 the cost.

Have also successfully turned gear indicator to 'always on' on one truck.

Thankfully I bought my MX+ about 4 years ago when it was 30 bucks so I’m not feeling pinched given it’s current cost. If this one takes a dump I’ll look at other options. Though the 5th Gen Rams have a very touchy BCM that doesn’t always play nice with AlphaOBD.

AlphaOBD seems to be the choice for tweaking your vehicle, but the interface looks like an engineering tool. What do folks recommend for the best real-time monitoring app, with pretty gauges and such, just to keep tabs on the vehicle?

The iDash Data Monster is very impressive because it can log data. If you don't want to log data, then the Edge CTS3 is nice, too.

Those look great, but I'm thinking more along the lines of an Android app that I can run on a phone or tablet. Something like Dashlink or UltraGauge that other's have liked.

So I got the new ECM swapped out and installed... I am currently in Alfa OBD trying to write the VIN and injector codes, and this is what it is giving me every time. "Failed. Wrong request length or Invalid request format." Not sure what to do now

Triple-check that you're entering the information correctly.

I would also suggest getting the previously mentioned "AlphaOBD" app, the stuff that comes with the OBDlink dongle has some stuff you can work with, but the AlphaOBD has proven to be the most beneficial for me, the torque pro app is also great and only 5$ (I think)
When I search for apps, AlfaOBD Demo comes up. Is that the correct one?

Not if you're wanting to make actual changes. You need the paid version for that.

Demo will let you move through the app and see what's available, but you can't make changes.

Gotcha. That makes sense. I was using a free tablet that we got through credit card points. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with AlfaOBD. So, I just ordered a Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 off Amazon. And thanks to @lselmes, I also purchased the VeePeak for the sale price.

Caleb, we have members here that took care of those issues as soon as they got their trucks, most have logged quite a few miles, I have already purchased a tone wheel and sensor and have a transmission man that says he'll take care of that and I believe he hinted at 1100$ to do the job, and I'm plan on tackling the HPFP on my own   if I can, would really like to fix/replace and be reimbursed over them touching my truck:unsure:

Stick around some very knowledgeable members here, that have seen and done a good bit of the legwork and are willing to share the knowledge(y)
Just in case you haven't had to do the tone wheel yet be aware that FCA will NOT reimburse unless the work is done at a dealer or an "authorized" service center! Went through this back in March, used an "ace" diesel mechanic to do the work but his shop wasn't FCA "authorized" so no reimbursement. I did the same as you, bought the tone wheel and sensor from Mopar first.

You should have been compensated as long as you had a receipt from the business who dis the repair along with a receipt for the parts.
